Review

I’m such a fan of this series and I couldn’t wait to get to Jack and Larissa’s story. It was everything I’d hoped it would be and more.

Jack is one of the ex-athletes that run Score. The company recently relocated to Fool’s Gold. Larissa is Jack’s girl Friday. She’s also an almost licensed masseuse. She’s an animal rescuer and all around do gooder. She also comes to realize that she’s in love with Jack. That has disaster written all over it because Jack is a commitment phobe.

Jack and Larissa;s story touched me. Larissa with her huge heart and Jack, with his emotional baggage. I’ll be honest, Jack was guilty of a great deal of douchebaggery here and it brought the rating down for me. Otherwise, this book was perfect. This is a great series and everyone should read it.

Two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a brutal destiny in the heart-wrenching new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward.

Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on… except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around… but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice.

Review

Be forewarned: there are spoilers below.

I read a lot of reviews before I started this book. I was shocked at the negative reviews, threats that people were done with the series and that Ward had broken their trust with this novel. To say I apprehensive to read it was an understatement. After finishing it, I see how people could feel the ways I mentioned above. Personal opinion is something everyone is entitled to and important in book reviewing. For me, this book wasn’t that bad.

Easy, people! Let me explain my views by breaking down the multiple storylines going on in the series.

Trez and Selena:
What a beautiful but tragic love story. I loved Selena and while I like the rest of the Shellans, I don’t love any of them but Beth, Mary and now Selena. I may understand the being upset over Selena’s death but we as readers saw this coming from a mile away. I knew this a went into the story willingly. I’m not sorry I did either. It was wonderful and touching to watch these two characters fall in love even knowing the end result.

Iam and the princess:
I’m okay with their story. It didn’t get a whole lot of page time but that was fine with me. He deserved an HEA also, especially after cleaning up after Trez for centuries.

Xcor and Layla:
What a hot ass mess! Xcor was a douche through most of the book. He needs to accept that Layla is the one for him and quit pushing her away. Nut up! He has put her in a terrible position. She feels horrible about her deceit of the Brotherhood.

Rhage and Mary:                                                                      I’m assuming that because the next book is theirs, that was reason for the amount of page time they got in this book. I love Rhage and Mary. Theirs is my favorite book in the series and I want them to get a baby. From what I read here, I can see that happening. Fingers crossed.

Spinoff series:                                                                         I’m very interested and can’t wait. The prospect of seeing more of the brothers appeals to me greatly.

I have three HUGE complaints with the book. First and foremost, I’m pissed that Selena died. Ward does seem to pick and choose which Shellans get to live or die. That is her right as the author but it sucks. Next, I felt cheated that I didn’t get to read about the reactions of Trez’s group. Trez, Iam, Rhev and Xhex. they were a family long before their adoption by the Brotherhood or mated into it. Thirdly, where the hell is Murdher?

So in closing, I enjoyed several aspects of this story. I’m fully invested in this series. If people don’t want to read anymore, okay, then don’t read. For me, it was a good read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

“NOTHING IN LIFE IS A COINCIDENCE”
It was my special day, an occasion to celebrate my life, when my entire future was rewritten and set on a new course with one look in his eyes.

Or was this always part of the destiny that I believed I could not run from?

As I watched him at the ILLEGAL STREET RACING SHOW I never planned on attending – I was certain of one thing about his speed and velocity behind a wheel of a car:

ONLY GOD is capable of catching him when he races.

The moment we met, there was no looking back at a past life that led me down a darkened and lonely road any longer.

Before him I had never dated anyone. Before him I lead a normal good-girl life.

With him my PLUS SIZE CURVES and unique facial features are loved and adored beyond a passionate and lustful extent

Beside him I became queen to the leader of an EXOTIC CARS RACING EMPIRE.

As fate would have it, regrets collected like old friends ready to relive both our most agonizing moments.

It’s always darkest before the dawn, but to see the sunrise, there are SEVEN words of HIS racing team pledge barricading the way at the end of the finish line:

Oath
Griffin
Blood
Hypersonic
Racers
Breakneck
League

Cauterized words onto his soul that will decide if he is either a villain or a savior.

The ultimate sacrifice of defying his most cardinal law for me must be decided by him alone.
Which will he choose?
Which will he let go of?
Which means more?

This is our journey. This is where our racing legacy with fast cars begin.

Review

This is the debut novel by Jordana Mia Lezamy. It takes us into the world of exotic car racing. You name the luxury sports car and they race it. The races are quite a grand production in spite of the fact that they’re illegal. Kaidence is the heroine of the story and for the most part, I adored her. She was kind hearted, pretty and a size sixteen. I would’ve loved her for that alone.

She’s been rejected in one form or another most of her life. She was abandoned by her biological mother, men only want her for what she can bring into the relationship and she was bullied because of her weight in school. Luckily for her, she was adopted by a loving family that treasures her.

Titan is our hero and he’s a driver. He’s also gorgeous and built. He’s very wealthy and worldly wise. The moment he sees Kaidence, he just knows that she’s the one. That part was swoon worthy for sure.

The above parts worked for me. What didn’t work for me was the league being in fear of Titan’s disapproval. And then when they went to the wedding and Titan held his hand up before they could enter in line. That was very cheesy to me. I also didn’t like Titan’s extreme bossiness. It affected how I viewed the rest of the story.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes exotic cars, racing and hot sex scenes.

This third novella in this series, as the others do, starts right where the last one finished. Grayson and Emma were trying to explain everything that has happened to them since they were apart. Right after Emma explains they have a daughter, the front door opens and Cally, the daughter, comes running into the house.

This novella deals with Grayson continuing to try to deal with his past and the scars that the past has left not only on his body but his soul. He has huge guilt issues over leaving Emma and the life that she was forced to lead without him.

Emma feels as though her dreams are finally coming true with Grayson’s homecoming. She ecstatic but knows that issues have to be dealt with. How will Cally react to having a father? How will her family ever accept Grayson back after he hurt her so badly? And how will Grayson react when he finds out about her occupations?

This story leaves us in another cliffhanger and boy, is it a doozy! I love Cristin Harber and will read anything she writes. She’s just that good. If you haven’t read her yet, you seriously need to get busy with that.

This second novella in this series has Cole under arrest for murder. He never wanted Hailey to be drawn into his mess but she can provide him with an alibi. He was warming her bed when the murder took place. You as the reader are still pretty unclear as to who exactly Cole and his team are truly working for. You get a few answers but not much else.

There’s still good suspense, hot sex and a drool worthy cover but I’m still not sold on the story itself.

Review ~ The Claiming of Eve by Bella Swann

This is a very dark, erotic interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and their Paradise Lost. It begins with Adam and Eve in a state of innocence. Through a series of increasingly lustful BDSM encounters with paranormal creatures such as Raphael, Lilith, Lucifer, and Michael, Eve falls into sin and takes her loving husband with her. Warning: This is a work of fiction that contains sexually explicit materials meant for those over the age of 18 and contains elements of dubious consent, dominant male, submissive female, and ménages.

Review

Bella continues to push the boundaries with her newest release, The Claiming of Eve. Set in the Garden of Eden, this book paints it in a new light, nothing like what you had envisioned it to be. The arc of the story is so irreverent, I don’t even know how to review it properly.

First, I would like to mention WHY I decided to read The Claiming of Eve. I saw a tweet that had a one-liner from the book:

Eve shuddered as she felt his cock hit the golden apple that was still deep inside her and push it up against her very core.

My immediate reaction was, good god, I simply have to read this book.

As per her usual routine, Bella throws you into the midst of things right away. First, Eve is so horny that she is masturbating, and this was such a hot scene, I almost wanted to take notes. I mean the woman knows how to use both of her hands, very well. Then we get to see Eve being roughly (please be forewarned – VERY roughly) dominated by her husband (Adam) and an angel.

Her overstimulated flesh was almost beyond its breaking point.

After reading this scene, I’d have to say that’s an underestimation. By the way, in case you didn’t know how Eve came into existence, it’s through being fucked by Adam. What a reasonable version of her first minutes on earth!

He had pushed his hard cock back and forth deep inside her virgin pussy as she waited helplessly to cum into existence.

Once the two men are done with her, they just discard her, as she is only there for their pleasure, and nothing else. Poor Eve, feeling neglected, wanders off and runs into Lilith, who turns out to be Adam’s first wife (what?!?). The women have a very hot scene in the middle of the book, so hot that I was wishing a Lilith-type person had walked across my path, just so she could ravage me like she did Eve. After that, there is another scorching scene involving monster sex, so you’ve been forewarned (once again). Poor Eve gets taken by a serpent Lucifer, who uses all of his snake-related appendages to work her over. Very very rough dubcon. Just sayin’.

It seems as if pain is the key necessary to controlling your pussy, Eve.

There are seven apples involved, one of which is stuffed up Eve in a tweet that drew me to this book in the first place. Also, if food play is not your thing, this is your warning (jeez, how many warnings am I going to have here?).

The final scene was highly erotic. In an unexpected twist, Bella makes Adam bisexual, and there is a very rough (once again) threesome involving another angel, whose task is to send Adam and Eve away from Paradise. Before he does that, he takes rough advantage of both sinners. Oh dear god. So, this is the final forewarning: if MM is not your thing, walk right by this. But if I were you, I would still read this, just to marvel at Bella’s audacity. There are also some orgasm withdrawal elements here that will make you squirm. Oh, and rough toy play. And since they didn’t have sex toys back then, Bella used her unstoppable imagination: the hilt of a sword, shoved up … that’s right, you guessed it. Also, umm, double anal. Good god. Is there any boundary that Bella will not push?

I cannot say enough about this book. Bella’s usual style, as always, transported me. It’s almost like a chanting style, where you just want to keep reading, it’s hard to explain. The descriptions of rough play were so vivid that I caught myself holding my breath more than once. But maybe that’s Bella’s intention – to heighten your arousal by slightly suffocating you. Worked well for me. Holy hell. I’m afraid I’m getting so addicted to Bella that I might stop reading anyone else.

Don’t fight the pain, sweet Eve. Your pleasure will be all the more intense once you submit.

Brittany isn’t the same girl she was four years ago. Haunted by memories of a violent attack, she hides from the world, hoping to go through life unnoticed. That is until Trey—her first crush and the only man she ever loved—reappears.
Trey had been around Brittany her whole life. Seven years her senior, he’d watched her grow into a gorgeous young woman. When she turned sixteen and suddenly started practicing her newfound feminine wiles on him, Trey realized he needed to back off. Four years later, when he runs into her again in a nightclub, Trey realizes they still share a special connection. Not to mention he can’t stop thinking about how badly he wants to make love to her.
Brittany wants Trey, but before they can have a future together, she’ll need to deal with the awful secret she’s carried with her from her past.

Review

This book has nothing to do with the Death Dwellers MC or her Phoenix series. It’s a stand alone and there’s no cliffhanger.

It’s a story about true love, at least on Brittney’s part. I guess Trey always loved but he refused to accept that most of the way through the book. Oh, he admitted he lusted after her even when she was jailbait but not love. This was a different story all together from what you usually read from this author. I liked it and it was a good cat and mouse situation. The suspense of the book in parts was heart pounding. I enjoyed that part a lot. I liked Brittney as a heroine. She was a hard worker because other than Trey and her brother, Bryson, she had no support staff. Her mother was truly a piece of shit.

What I didn’t care for was Trey. He was an asshole. A total player and a hypocrite. He was also very oblivious and stupid. Even when all the clues to the identity of Brittney’s attacker were staring him in the face, he refused to accept it until it was almost too late. Then there were some of Trey’s women just showing up willy nilly at his house. Hey playa, don’t let your sluts know where you live!

If you love a story about the power of first loves, hot sex and a bad guy you can truly loathe, pick this book up. You’ll enjoy it immensely.

Working behind the counter of a specialty coffee shop, Tristan fantasizes about a businessman who rushes in and out each morning after ordering plain, black coffee. Who orders black coffee in a shop that sells every blend known to man? After awhile, it becomes apparent that the man is seeking Tristan out. But why? It would be fine for Tristan if the other guy wasn’t giving him such odd looks. Convinced he’s a homophobe who doesn’t like his flamboyant look, Tristan makes a point of avoiding the counter. But when Tristan is forced by his boss to do his job, an awkward moment arises between him and the hot man in the business suit. Only when he sees him again does he realize things weren’t exactly as he suspected.

Review

This was a first for me: a sweet romantic story that I actually loved. I normally can’t stomach romantic stories, but this one was different. Somehow, I got through it without requiring any insulin. Not just that, I loved this story. I think it helped that it was so short. I’m a fan of short stories.

In this book, we meet a cute boy named Tristan, who works at the titular Coffee Shop. He sees this hot-looking business guy every day, who orders a plain black coffee. He’s always aloof, and poor Tristan mistakes his attitude for disdain. He is so intimidated and annoyed by this guy that he actively avoids him. Until this hottie cannot be avoided anymore, because one day Tristan finds this guy, whose name is Ryan, at the door to his apartment.

What happens next is very sweet indeed: the guys fall in love, and you can actually feel the butterflies fluttering about as Tristan and Ryan get to know each other and feel shy at first. There is a very sweet bedroom scene, which Candi describes so well that you actually feel like you’re a voyeur in Tristan’s bedroom. A cute and sweet relationship follows. I don’t want to retell the story since Candi does a superb job of it in the book. The prologue was a very nice touch, given that this was a short story that doesn’t normally call for a prologue. It literally almost made me cry, and I swear, I’m not the kind of person that cries in movies or when reading books.

I was completely taken by this story, and I am sure that everyone who reads it will be as well. What a great take on short story erotic romance. Loved it.
