He thought it was the perfect crime. When Jack—a self-professed “bluebeard” and murderer of women—finally disposed of his obscenely rich wife, he thought he’d get away with it. He thought she would be just like all the others.

But he was wrong. Dead wrong.

Because unbeknownst to Jack, the specter of his now-deceased wife has risen from her unmarked grave: blood-spattered, brutalized, and ready for revenge. But that’s not all she’s after. This phantom isn’t just out for vengeance. She also hungers for a little… erotic stimulation. Will Jack survive the experience?

Written in the style of a nineteenth-century gothic novel, Necromantic Encounter is guaranteed to titillate and terrify in equal measure!

This 6,400+ word story contains adult material that may not be suitable for all audiences. Recommended only for the strong of heart.

Review

Well.

I have to say it IS only for the strong of heart. This is a story which starts off terribly Victorian. The prose is Victorian. The way the narrator speaks is Victorian. I swear I could have been reading a book by one of the Bronte sisters. In the beginning. And then it takes a somewhat abrupt left turn, kind of like this:

Our protagonist is a self-professed “Bluebeard”. He’s killed his wives before, but he swears THIS time he won’t! Reminds me of a certain someone from popular fiction.

So, then of course his independent wife annoys him, and well, he just has to take care of her. This is where the book took the left turn. It’s like… this is the Tell-Tale heart if Poe wrote erotica. This is horror, pure and simple, mixed in with eroticism in a way that made me sit up and take notice. This is the true essence of horrorotica. You’re not supposed to be turned on by it, but you are. My reaction reading it was like this:

I wasn’t sure what kind of face to make! I was in turns horrified and electrified. The book promises thrills and chills, and it delivers. Holy. God. It delivers. I got goosebumps while reading it, and I was glued to each electronic page. I couldn’t tear my eyes away. It didn’t quite frighten me… but it was close enough. It wasn’t just the horror aspect, but the attraction to the macabre which hit really close to home. I’m a horror fan, and I often take delight in other things people find gruesome and ghastly, so for me, this was like… an ultimate piece of writing. A… a… weird sort of self-reflection where I looked at the things I like and went, “Yeah… maybe this isn’t quite normal. Or healthy.” The obsession written here is feverish. I cannot stress enough that you leave feeling that you shouldn’t have been aroused, but the only other option was to be scared.

Sakura writes it very much like it needed to be: as a Victorian novel gone horribly wrong. I had just finished reading Kanye West–Reanimator in which the author writes Kanye West into a Lovecraft story, written in the Lovecraftian style, which made me reread some Lovecraft. This is a book that can be shelved right next to Lovecraft without missing a beat. The style is impeccable. The prose is clean (there was one error that I found, but I was so into it I skipped right past it and now I’ve forgotten where it was!). The story is ghoulish and gruesome, but incredibly sexy at the same time. It’s a work of art. It’s the meshing of two things that should not be mixed to make a incredibly beautiful piece of art.

Yes.

Art. This is art. It takes skill to write something like this, a skill which I admit I’m jealous of. Actually jealous. If you’re into horror, you’ll love it. If you’re into erotica, you’ll… find parts of this uncomfortably arousing. If you are into literature, you’ll find it a fascinating read. The only complaint I have about this book is the cover. It just doesn’t do it justice. I give it 10 out of 10 Bluebeards.

Gable Powers had all the makings of everything my father had ever warned me about: a reputation that was anything but stellar, a dirty mouth that had me shivering at the things he uttered in my ear, and a body (oh, God, that body) that was covered in tattoos, all of which added up to a solid ten-point-oh on the bad-boy scale.

The first time I met him, I instantly loathed him.

The second time was even worse.

He was a jerk. He was an ass.

He had secrets.

He was nothing I thought I ever wanted.

So why couldn’t I resist him?

Review

I’ve had my eye on this book for a while. I’d read good and bad reviews but something kept pulling me towards reading it. I ended up enjoying it. In college the two main characters have to “open up” to each other through emails as part of a class. The catch is that they don’t know who each is.

What I liked:

Gorgeous hunky hero

Once the hero decided he was all in, he was really all in

The email bantering

The emotions you feel as the heroine struggles with Gable liking her for her or his on-line pen pal, who’s actually her

What I disliked:

When he kisses the heroine for the first time and he says the exact same thing to her that she heard him say to another girl that he kissed. I wanted to throat punch him.

I ended up liking it well enough to continue on with the series.

I should’ve known better. I should be studying harbor seals’ breeding habits, not conducting my own research into mating rituals of the Navy variety.

He’s a jackass. An arrogant, womanizing, patronizing, Harley-riding jerk.

A one-night stand. One night of the most incredible sex I’ve ever had. Shane is trained to kill with his bare hands in 300 different ways—and he knows 300 ways to f**k me, too.

Now my father is engaged to his mother. And we’re heading to Mexico for the wedding. The prick is blackmailing me. He’s threatening to ruin their big day if I don’t surrender to his demands.

Quit is not in his vocabulary. I hate him, but I know he’ll never give up until he gets everything he wants.

Screw that! I won’t give up—I’ll never submit to America’s cockiest badass.

I thoroughly enjoy Alana Albertson books. I had never read Linda Barlow before but I may have to check out her backlist now. I don’t know whether it was her filthy mouth or Alana’s, but whoever’s it was, momma like. Dirty talking, dirty minded, alpha male. Loved it!

It was a hook up that became a hot ass mess. Imagine meeting a guy on the beach, being insanely attracted to him, banging him senseless and going your separate ways. Fast forward nine months.
You see him again and you both realize you’re gonna be step siblings. Talk about awkward.

It started off with a bang, no pun intended. Loved the sex scenes! HAWT! Dirty! Fan-fucking-tastic! Then the story hit a plateau and stayed there. Not bad but not really advancing either. I liked it but I didn’t love it.

At the same time, Janey has been dating or engaged to doctor-in-training David Lawrence. Janey decides a few days with Joe is just what she needs before she goes home to the island to face her parents and family with the news of her broken engagement. It was bad enough for Joe loving Janey from afar, but having her in his house is pure torture. Will he take advantage of this opportunity to show her what they could have together? And what will Joe’s best friend and Janey’s protective older brother Mac have to say about it?

Review

Joe and Janey. I just knew their story would be epic. And it was, sort of. Joe was epic. I mean, head over heels swoon worthy! I wish I could clone him, mass produce him, sell those Joe clones, make millions and retire to read full time. He’s really THAT wonderful.

Janey was my problem. Why? I don’t exactly know. Janey was cute, funny, selfless, she loved animals and was well liked. There was nothing to dislike about her. Yet, I never warmed up to her. I found myself gritting my teeth sometimes when scenes involved her.

It was a cute story by a great author but never really worked for me.

“All my life I’d always known what the Gentry boys were. A set of fraternal triplets born to a depraved family, they were rough, sexy and wild as wolves.”

Saylor…
I don’t even know if love is real. After running from the bastard who brutalized me, I limped back to Arizona, choosing a vibrant college town in the hopes of starting over. I never expected to find him there.
Cord Gentry.
He and his brothers were tough, lusty forces of nature I’d known since childhood. Years ago, Cord seduced me as a sick game. I’ve hated him ever since. Now here he is again, a man who beats other men bloody for money.
Cord has always been heartless, dangerous, not to be trusted.
And I want him so much I can’t think.

Cord…
They called us ‘those white trash Gentry boys’ until we believed that’s what we were. Our people squatted at the edge of a hellhole prison town for generations. The childhood we endured was the stuff of nightmares. I’d learned early on that my brothers, Chase and Creed, were the only people on earth worth my time.
They all told us we were bad, that we’d always be bad.
The horrors of the past have scarred my soul.
But now I need to be better.
For her.

Review

Remember the boys in high school who were bad? The ones that made your hormones stand up and take notice of them? The ones you were warned about? Well, in this story, those boys are the Gentry brothers. Triplets. The trifecta of hotness. Cordero, Creedence and Chasyn Gentry. This is Cord’s story of love and redemption.

Cord did something deplorable in high school. He took a dare from his brother and seduced the nerdish girl at school. As if that wasn’t assholish enough, his brother told everyone at school about it. Young men! My God, they are so stupid. Cord isn’t a bad guy as an adult though. He and his brothers are just trying to survive after their hellish childhood. Poverty, abuse and judgement.

The nerdish girl from high is no longer a nerd and she just came crashing back into Cord Gentry’s life. Saylor, the heroine, has just fled from her abusive boyfriend to her cousin. She had finally had enough of being used as a punching bag. She just wants safety and peace. What she didn’t want was to come face to face with the boy who broke her heart in high school.

This was an enjoyable story of redemption. Redemption for Cord for his hurting Saylor and Saylor’s redemption of love. Learning to trust love and it’s healing powers. When life has kicked the shit out of you, it leaves you skeptical. Watching these two characters work through all that was nice.

Not one to confide his secrets, such as where he got that mysterious scar across his neck, he’s quick with his fists and even quicker to jump to the defense of his MC. But is he nimble enough to handle the woman he never saw coming? Or will she leave him with a matching scar across his heart?

I’m a big fan of the Wind Dragons MC series. I still shake my head at the name though. This is a novella of the series. I loved it!

Irish and Valentina were so sweet together. Tina is now a stronger woman after fleeing from her ex, an abusive police officer. She’s trying to make a new life for herself and thinks she’s getting it done.

Irish sees her and wants her. Not just for sex but to get to know her. He does some kind of controlling, underhanded things but his heart was in the right place.

My only bitch was that it was too short. Can’t wait for the next book.

I listened to the audio version to refresh my memory so I can move onto the next one. I’m really glad I did because there is some important things I forgot about. Also, Irina Stone, the narrator is pretty good. Now I can move onto The Bruja and the Beast. **UPDATE REREAD 3/16/17**

Ahhhh… Satan’s balls! 😉 I knew it! I knew that The Brothels of Brimstone was going to be awesome and it was! Ever since I read the first book, The Devil and Delilah, I’ve been hooked. So in this installment, Delilah is going after the gang of guys that killed her family and she is still trying to learn about her new self. Delilah meets Celia who is a cook in a brothel and has her first f/f experience. While in the brothel, Delilah takes advantage of all the healing qualities it has to offer before she sets out on completing her journey. Of course Azazel shows up and spices up the place.

“Oh, if we were in Hell… if I had you where I really wanted you…” He leaned down and purred in her ear, “I would strip the skin from your bones, and you would love every fucking second of it.”

The sex is very detailed and really good. My favorite part is the priest! I love the corrupting of a priest and I just don’t see it often. I see it in porn but not a lot in books (or at least the ones I’ve read). Just one of my kinks. I have no idea why… I’ve never been religious and rarely went to church. FUCK it’s naughty, taboo and hot 😉

My ONLY complaints are that all of the books aren’t out yet and I wanted more story in the first 40ish percent. I know… WTF am I talking about? Let me try to explain… this story is so awesome, fascinating and epic that I need more of it. As the story progresses, I keep reading about all the sex Delilah is having. Which is fantastic and erotic to read about and it truly is important and a huge part of the story development. So, I totally get why there is so much of it. However, I wanted more story. The sex is fantastic and very well written but I think the story needs to outshine some of the sex.

Overall, I loved it and I can’t wait for the next Delilah Devilshot. There is a lot of behind the scenes things going on that pulls the reader in and wanting to come back for more. I need to find out what this “tribute” is. Devil baby? Anal? WHAT! Then the game between Azazel and Samael? It’s like they are playing dolls with people’s souls. I’d really like to learn more about the Red Shoes brothel, Johnny Pharoah, Luke and Samael. I’d like to know what Azazel has up his sleeve and what Delilah’s next move is.

Over my dead body.

That’s what I told Gracie when she informed me of her plan to pick some random guy she met online to get rid of her pesky virginity.

If anyone is touching her, it’s going to be me.

I shouldn’t even be considering it, but I can’t get it out of my head: her, under me, begging me.

***
Arrogant. Cocky. Prick.

Those are the words I’d use to describe my older brother’s dangerously handsome best friend.

When he learned of my plan to kick off my white cotton briefs, ditching my good girl persona once and for all by losing my virginity to the first eligible bachelor I could find, he flipped out. Said over his dead body.

He says if anyone’s going to do it, it’s going to be him.

I hate that I’m even considering his offer.

But I am … I sooo am.

Ever since he suggested it, all I can think about is his cocky smile on those full lips as he’s driving in to me.

But if we cross that line … will I ever be able to go back?

Review

There are certain tropes in books that have me salivating. This book had one of my personal faves. The brother’s friend. I love it! I can’t really explain why, but I love it. I didn’t read the first book in this series but I don’t feel like I really missed anything either. So, for those of you that like to read in order, I guess get the first book and read it first.

Hudson has always wanted his best friend’s little sister. He knows if he acts on it, that it’s bad news. I mean, that’s the kind of shit that gets your ass kicked. Especially with the past that he shared with Gracie’s brother. When you act like a man whore with your best friend, you’re gonna give said friend the impression that you use women for your own pleasure.

Gracie has gotten her secular life in order. She just finished college and found herself a good job. Now, she plans to get her sex life started. She can’t wait for Hudson to finally notice her. She’s waited long enough. At dinner with her brother and Hudson, she drops the bomb that she is on-line dating and looking to have her V-card punched. As you can imagine, that conversation gets a little heated but Gracie will not be swayed.

This was a cute, short read. Nothing major happens, just a sweet little love story. I enjoyed it and think that lovers of a low conflict romance will really enjoy it also.

Review

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! Holy shit that was an intense and crazy ride! I do love a good psychological thriller and this one did not disappoint. This is an exciting and very well written story and I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a book that makes your heart pump fast for many different reasons. This is an author you will want to keep on your radar.

The Need is a thrilling story about an insecure young woman who discovers things about herself that are brought to the surface in the most unexpected, unusual and sometimes terrifying way. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting to read faster to find out what happens next. This is truly a prime example of a “page turner”.

description

Angie and Heather’s characters are very well developed and interesting. To me they felt like real people and I was right there with them on their crazy journey. Thank goodness I really wasn’t but I did feel what Angie felt. I felt her anticipation, love, fear, hate and confusion about what was happening to her. Heather helped these feelings along because she is a manipulator, deceiver and in my opinion a complete psychopath. However, at times I think Heather wanted the “normal” and she saw that in Angie. She wanted and yearned for someone to love her for who she is and all her faults. She wasn’t loved by her mother and her father left when she was young. So Heather has her own self esteem and trust issues.

“We are all victims of circumstance-until we make a conscious decision not to be.

description

This isn’t my first f/f book and most certainly not my last. The sex in this book is really good, terrifying, fascinating, complicated and very erotic. It’s very well done and given the circumstances of the story, nothing like I’ve read before. To me, each scene has a purpose in both Angie and Heather’s character development. There are a couple of scenes that make me wonder if Heather had set them up prior or if they really were unexpected. Example, the City Inspector and cop? Is she really that much of a mastermind manipulator?

“You don’t hate me. You chose to let me do that to you because it gave you something you needed.”

description

Some of the things I questioned or didn’t understand are; Angie is supposed to be super smart and highly educated. So it surprises me that she can even consider falling in love with someone who lied and tortured her. I get that you do what you need to survive but in my opinion that is an extreme case of Stockholm syndrome and that girl needs some therapy. I also know that years of low self esteem and believing your own truths has a tremendous effect on you.

description

There is also a part that confused me, but maybe I just read it wrong or something. Heather uses a phrase with the “city inspector” that calms him down and then Angie turns around and uses the exact phrase on Heather. Wouldn’t Heather recognize what Angie is doing? There is also a little bit of Heathers back story that I may have misunderstood. Again, it’s totally possible that I missed something. I thought that her mom got a new boyfriend? But then she ended up getting kicked out? Sorry people, I cannot elaborate on that question. Also, at the end of the book, what happened to the “other people” involved in the story? Was Stone Media set up like a snuff film or something? What happed to the company and all the videos? I can’t ask too many questions because I don’t want to give anything away. The ending did not go in the direction I expected which makes it much more interesting but left me with a lot of questions.

On a side note, I need to mention that every time I hear Iron Maiden… all I can think about is Bill and Ted. This really has nothing to do with the book, it’s just something that popped in my head almost every time I read it. 😀

description

My overall experience of The Need is a full 5 stars, but the ending and the few things I questioned make me take it down half a star. Although that ending was not what I expected or wanted, this is not my story to tell. This is Angie and Heathers story told through the eyes of S.L. Hannah and it really is an exciting story. I highly recommend trying this out for yourself.
