Genre: New Adult

The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy right?

Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…

Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she’s shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It’s a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

All’s fair in love and football…Game on

Excerpt

My mother once told me that the most important moment in my life wouldn’t be when I won the National Championship or even the Super Bowl. It would be when I fell in love.

Life, she insisted, is how you live it and who you live it with, not what you do to make a living. Given that she told me this when I was sixteen, I basically rolled my eyes and worked on practicing my pass fakes.

But my mother was insistent.

“You’ll see, Drew. One day, love will creep up and smack you upside the head. Then you’ll understand.”

My mom, it turns out, was wrong in one regard. Love, when it came for me, did not creep. No, it walked up to me, bold as you please, you know, just in case I wasn’t paying attention. It did, however, slap me upside my head.

And while I’d be happy to tell my mom that she was right about that, she’s dead. A fact that hurts even more now that I’ve been struck down. More like shot down. Cut off at the knees. Totally fucked. Whatever you want to call this disaster. Because the object of my affection hates me.

I am man enough to acknowledge that the cluster fuck that is my current love life is entirely my fault. I wasn’t prepared for Anna Jones.

I still cringe at the memory of when I first laid eyes on her at the beginning of the semester. Being late for class, I’d rushed to a seat in the back row, and was trying to remain unnoticed. I can’t go anywhere on campus without getting attention. And though it sounds like an awesome thing, it gets tiring.

When the roll call reached the back row, a soft voice, rich and thick as maple syrup, slid over me.

“Anna Jones.”

Just her name. That was all she’d said. It was like a hot finger stroking down my spine. My head snapped up. And there she was, so fucking pretty that I couldn’t think straight. I might as well have been sacked.

Breathless, my head ringing, I could only gape. I’m not going to say it was love at first sight. No, it was more like oh, hell-yes-please, I’ll have that. With a helping of right-the-fuck-now on the side.

Thinking maybe I was overtired and simply overreacting to something that wasn’t really there, I stared at Anna Jones and tried to make sense of my extreme reaction.

As if feeling my gaze, she’d turned, and fucking hell… Her eyes were wide, almost cat-like, with the corners tilting up just a bit. At first, those eyes appeared brown, but they were really bottle green. And so clear. And annoyed. She glared at me. I didn’t care. One word was playing a loop in my head: mine.

I don’t remember the rest of the class. I watched Anna Jones like a condemned man getting his last view of the setting sun. While she tried to ignore me. Admirably.

The second class ended I shot up, and so did she. We nearly collided in the middle of the aisle. And then it all fell to shit.

I am not a fan of New Adult as a genre. I’m truly not and have quit reading books or refused to read them because they fell into this genre. I’m a grown woman and like to read grown up romances complete with explicit sex. I admit it, I’m a bit of a nasty girl. My complaint with this genre was the fact that my first few attempts at New Adult were almost what I considered Young Adult on the heat scale. No bueno. This book however, is what I think this genre should always be. College aged characters that have descriptive sex.

In a time where there are literally tons of broken characters in books, this story took two broken people and made their story believable and emotional. You have the college quarterback who has the world by the tail, but who still feels the loss of both parents with every part of his being. You also have the voluptuous redhead that has to work for everything she has while she continues to question what she really wants. They are unlikely to fall for each other but that’s exactly what happens. It isn’t always pretty but it is always heartfelt.

Drew notices Anna in class and pretty much falls for her right away. Anna takes some time to get used to the idea. She does agree to a “hook up” kinda of arrangement. Drew goes along with this for a while but after they have sex, he’s all in. He doesn’t care who knows and wants to shout that they are together from the rooftops but not Anna. Anna is too busy waiting for and dreading Drew to come to his senses about choosing her. She’s a full figured girl and with that there are scars that affect how Anna feels about herself. Self preservation is a bitch sometimes and gets the better of these two on more than one occasion. But in the end, there’s a beautiful love story of learning to love one’s self and love’s redemptive powers at work.

I only have two complaints about this book. The first one is that it seemed lengthy while I was reading it. The second was that I felt that the heroine was a bit of a slut. She’s maybe twenty-one and she’d already had mulitple sexual partners? Just a personal preference. I don’t have to have a virginal heroine by any means but it kind of struck me as sleazy. Other than those two complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and eagerly await the next book. I hope Iris gets her own book. Hint, hint Ms. Callihan. Please.

This is a short story length novella that stars Ari, a porter, Nancy, a prudish executive staying at the hotel and the female Shaman of the island. Ari is insulted by Nancy, who is an out and out bitch. Ari seeks revenge by going to see the island Shaman. The Shaman turns Nancy into a blonde bimbo that is also a nymphomaniac. There are a couple of more twists to this story that I don’t want to ruin for you who want to read this.

This was a little difficult to read for me. I didn’t connect to the characters or even remotely like them. I will say that the graphic descriptions of the sex scenes were hot. They could’ve been hotter but some of the wording made me cringe. I hate the word hole being used in my sex scenes. This is just a personal preference but the word was used more than once. I would like to review something by this author in the future to see how her writing style progresses.

Expectations. They’re not always fair but they are what they are. Expectations are what happened to this book for me.

Enter Drew Evans. He’s very wealthy, very ambitious, very good looking, very nicely built and very much a douche bag of the highest order. He knows that he is and freely admits it. His treatment of the female species is abhorrent. You can’t blame him for all of it though. The women are never given promises of more than a hookup. And anybody that has said hookup in a public restroom at a bar, kinda has it coming to them. Not judging but that behavior is gross. One night while he’s out on the town, he sees a beautiful brunette. He puts the moves on her and she rebuffs him. He’s flabbergasted but not deterred.

Kate Brooks has just landed the job she’s always wanted and is out celebrating. She runs into a suave, good looking man who promptly puts the full court press on her. She finds him charming if also cocky. After turning him down, she shows up at her new job the next day, only to find out that he is not only her new coworker but his father is her boss. Not to mention, Drew is still in full pursuit of her even after she announces to him that’s she’s engaged.

After reading all the rave reviews for this book, I was excited to read it. I just wasn’t as impressed as apparently the rest of the readers were. Drew’s douchebaggery status was of epic proportions despite his being a bit endearing. Watching him fall was a true delight. Kate was almost perfect, almost. She kissed Drew not once but twice when she was engaged to marry another man. I didn’t like that at all. That’s cheating just so you know. This wasn’t a bad book and the dialogue was fantastic but I wasn’t blown away by it. I will say that I did enjoy reading from the male POV.

About The Author

Deciding to write books was something I had contemplated for a while. A co-worker of mine had gotten me started me on the 50 Shades Trilogy. I had quickly became absorbed! Reading contemporary romance had become a part of me.
Little did I know that my daughter was a product of the “50 Shades Baby Boom”! I remember going to my doctor’s appointment to find out that we were off to labor and delivery- and I didn’t download any new books to my kindle! Talk about bummed out! However, I made up for that when I was home for my maternity leave. I believe we read 40+ books while I was home.

I am a full time new mom, and wife. Yes, I do work full time, I am currently doing multiple things, bouncing back after baby, weight watchers, exercising, training for a 5k, reading and writing. So far, I have really enjoyed writing as a hobby.

My work book club, “HE” had consumed us (and by us, I mean 2). We were critics of the stories and characters. I then thought to myself, “hmm, I bet I could write stories just like this, and have them turn out like I’d want them to.” Well, joking turned into thinking. Thinking turned into brainstorming. Brainstorming lead to opening a word document and letting my mind explore.

Growing up I had written short stories with friends, and as extra credit for school. This is probably where it all started… I had turned in one of my short stories without re-reading, or editing it completely. I had my paper returned to me saying the “content was inappropriate.” Apparently contemporary romance was frowned upon in English class! Oops! So maybe I was destined to become a writer.

I thought to myself that I want to live in this world and make a difference and have a part of me in history after I leave. This is me staying forever young.

Here I will post my journey, it’s a learning experience for me, so please bear with me.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, recommendations- I welcome them all.

Enjoy :)

Wow! I loved this book! I liked it so much better than it’s predecessor. The writing was much improved and I truly liked the characters.

Jeremy is a member of the Condemned Angels MC. His father is the President and he’s grown up wanting to be a part of that legacy. He’s had his eye on Nicole ever since they were both much younger. He lives his life by the club’s rules and doesn’t apologize for it. He can be a bit of a douche but there’s an endearing quality to him also. His inner monologue regarding his feelings for Nicole is giggle worthy. All alpha male and growling. As turmoil hits the club, he begins to realize what exactly his feelings are for Nicole and what he needs to do about them.

Nicole has grown up around the MC. Her best friend is the President’s daughter and she basically grew up in his home. She’s had a lot a really bad shit happen to her and Jeremy helped her through those dark times. He was her first for a lot of things and she’s loved him ever since. Even when he was being an ass. She thinks that there’s no future with Jeremy and starts a relationship of sorts with Hunter, another club member. Their relationship was sweet and hot. Hunter is smart enough to know when he’s second best and backs away. When Nicole’s past catches up with her, it will take the whole club to come to her defense.

I am still gushing because of reading this book. I simply loved it. When I hit the last page and it was a cliffhanger, I thought, NO! I can not wait for the next book and please oh please oh please make it Hunter’s. I adored him! This is a solid addition to the MC romance genre.

A SWEET GIRL
Nicola Hart grew up under the heels of her older brother and his best friend, Cash Garrison. Years of ignoring the spark between her and Cash didn’t keep their attraction from turning into a slow burn. Just shy of her twentieth birthday, Nicola needs to know: he wants her or he doesn’t.

HE CAN’T STAY AWAY FROM
She’s his best friend’s little sister. The definition of hands off. Cash has tried to ignore her for years. Instead, he’s looked at every pretty little thing who’s crossed his path, all to ignore the girl he seems destined to want. But when half the school is interested in Nicola, it’s time to stake a claim and hold the hand of the one he really loves.

Sweet Girl is the novel length prequel to best-selling Garrison’s Creed. Before Cash and Nicola can fall in love forever, they have to suffer through their first love.

Warning: if you haven’t read the Titan series, stop here. You need to read the series in order to fully appreciate this book.

Cash and Nicola have their HEA later in this series. This book is the prequel to their story. It starts when they are both in college. They’ve been raised together with their families being close. Cash is Nicola’s brother’s best friend and in a way Nicola’s best friend too. Nicola has been in love with Cash most of her life but between an overly protective brother and Cash’s manwhoring, she’s never felt like she was what he needed. At college, he has quite the reputation and apparently earned it. Still Nicola knows what she feels for him is love. She dates but never seriously, she’s waiting for Cash to see her as something other than Roman’s sister.

Cash has always wanted what he thought he couldn’t have, Nicola. Like all stupid boys, he has glutted himself on other women. Nicola holds his heart and when the time was right, he made his move. I’ll admit, his moves are swoon worthy. He wants the world to know his intentions bust respects Nicola’s wishes to keep their relationship on the down low until the time is right.

This was an emotional powerhouse of a book. Honestly, Cash and Nicola’s book wasn’t even my favorite in the Titan series but this book was fantastic. It was even classified as New Adult, a genre I pretty much loathe and I still loved it. I adored the characters, the pacing of the story and the preciousness of first love. I love Cristin Harber’s books but I think she’s really hit her stride with this one. If you haven’t started this series, there is something seriously wrong with you. Get hooked!

Review

I keep saying it over and over, this series gets better and better. I countdown to the next book release with such anticipation. Because this is a series of novellas, I don’t give a long review of them. I don’t want to give too much away either. I think that they need to be read with little or no information because you as a reader need to experience everything as you go along.

This installment takes place in a very short time frame and is much more emotionally involving. You get more insight into the relationship Juliette and Jase had and a tease of what they might get to have again. You also get to see the depth of feelings that Juliette has for Elliot and her guilt over how their relationship has changed. You still get all the suspense you could want and this time, really hot sex. You always get graphic details of the love scenes but if you’ve read this series you know they are not hot. I get sucked in every time thinking that there might be a happier ending to this quest of Juliette’s only to realize that she can’t do it that way. When revenge is the only motivator taking presedence, you have to see it through. And the ending scene….HOLY SHIT!

It’s not too late to get hooked. I promise, if you like romantic suspense, you’ll like this series. It’s an auto buy for me and now my countdown to the end of July has officially begun.

“I’ll be honest with you—I’m no hero. Sure, the media tries to brand every Navy SEAL as some kind of Batman dressed in cammies. There’s even a line in one of our cadences: “Superman is the man of steel, he ain’t no match for Navy SEAL.” You’ve seen the movies—we’re indestructible, invincible. But that night, the one you read about in the papers … all I really wanted to do was get laid.

One harmless fuck with a Curaçao whore, no strings attached. I picked her out of a lineup—wild, dark hair, long legs and a crooked smile. After she sucked me off, I relaxed back onto the creaky, cum-stained cot, thankful for the blissful moments she gave me when I actually forgot for a second the faces of my buddies who died because I made the wrong call, the tears of the children I couldn’t save, and the eyes of the enemies I slaughtered during their last seconds of life.

But before I left, her hazel eyes peered into my soul. She whispered in a distinct Californian accent, “My name is Annie Hamilton. I’m an American citizen. I was kidnapped from a cruise ship five years ago. You’re my last hope. Please save me.”

One desperate plea. This wasn’t a Hollywood blockbuster or a New York Times best-selling thriller. I knew that this time there was no room for excuses, no margin for errors. I had one chance to put the cape on and be her hero.”

I’ll be honest with you—I’m no hero. This book had me hooked from the above blurb. I got chills and knew I had to read it. I’m a huge fan of military romantic suspense and I must have needed a hit of it because this book worked for me on every level. From Annie’s whispered plea, Patrick’s reaction to it, his promise to rescue her and bring her home. Also, both of the characters’ determination toward their end goals.

I’ve seen some negative reviews of this book and while I understand some of the complaints made, I also know that everyone is flawed and mistakes are made. I enjoyed the guilt that came with decisions that were made in the story. The corrections and the making right of those decisions. You get a lot of things in this novella length book and I loved it all. Human sex slave trading happens and it wasn’t glamorized here. It was nice to have a happy ending in this story, even if it is a work of fiction. Alana Albertson has gained a fan and I would love to hear about Patrick’s two friends who helped him pull off her rescue.
This is the one if not the best books I’ve read all year.

REVIEW ~ Play by Kylie Scott (Stage Dive #2)

Title: Play
Series: Stage Dive
Author: Kylie Scottplay stage dive
Published by: St. Martin’s Griffin
Published Date: March 25, 2014
Genres:
Pages: 288
Heat Level: 3 Flames
Overall: 5 Stars

Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller Lick. Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

ReviewLoved it! I mean I absolutely loved it! Kylie Scott, you enchantress. I’m on my knees, doing the “we’re not worthy” thing. I’m worshipping at the altar of you. Play was fantastic. Hilariously wonderful. Whew! Now that that’s done, let me tell you all about the book.

Mal is the drummer for Stage Dive and a bit of a man whore and a bit of a hot mess. He’s dealing with a boatload of problems, from changes in the band, family issues and the need to run from it all. He’s in the shadows at a party and sees a girl talking on the phone. She’s explaining the latest of her bad luck woes to someone on the other line. Her story intrigues him and he sees her vulnerability. It sparks something in him. She calms the demons he’s facing. He provokes her into a small argument, much to the shock of the rest of the party. Mal is pretty happy go lucky and gets along with everyone, so fighting with a woman is strange for him.

Anne has had a string of bad luck lately. To make matters worse, she’s talked into going to a party, where her crush has just heard about her newest catastrophe. After he tells her she needs to quit letting people take advantage of her, she yells at him. In front of everyone at the party. Later at the party, he tells everyone he and Anne are going to start dating. She is shocked and flabbergasted at his announcement . When she gets home from work the next day, he’s moved into her apartment with her! How can she keep her composure through this charade?!

Kylie Scott gives us a bad boy hero whose heart is about to break, a Plain Jane heroine who finally gets what she deserves, a best friend who realized what he lost too late, friends who will sacrifice for those they love, a story that makes you laugh out loud and sex scenes that you need fan for. Is there anything else you could possibly need?

Review

This year I have become a big fan of Tina Wainscott and her new series, the Justiss Alliance. I loved the novella that spawned the series and enjoyed the first full length book. I do have to say that I enjoyed this book more than the first though. I felt a little bit let down with the previous one considering I was crazy about the novella. This series is a lot like Maya Banks’ KGI series or Cindy Gerard’s Black Ops, Inc. series, both I happen to love. So needless to say, I’m thrilled to have another military romantic suspense series to read. It is truly one of my favorite genres.

Julian Cuerva is a disgraced former SEAL who has recently joined The Justiss Alliance. He hasn’t had a case yet and conveniently one falls into his lap. After seeing a beautiful redhead at a gas station earlier in the day, he sees her again at a renown biker bar. This intrigues him because she doesn’t look like the kinda of girl that usually hangs out at this type of a bar. Julian rides a motorcycle but is not a biker. He and his former teammate, Rath decide to sit and watch what happens to the pretty redhead as she approaches the bar.

Mollie is hunting for her wayward sister. She lost her job, most of her money and the help of her grandparents searching for her sister. See, Mollie is a caretaker of people. She has this need inside her to protect and nurture the people she cares about. Her hunt for her sister is because other than her grandparents, she has never been able to count on anyone. Her mother was an addict, her father abandoned the family and her sister’s lifestyle choices have left Mollie to fend for herself. Not to mention her choice in men is abominable. She knows her sister was last seen with a one percent biker named Brick and that she vanished after a frightened phone to Mollie, begging for her help.

Julian takes it upon himself and his employers by extension, to help Mollie in her search. He admires her tenacity and determination but begins to realize her desire for family but her fear of abandonment. Julian, a lover of women soon accepts he’s met the one. Mollie, not so much. She has walls built up so high that even Julian can climb them. Together, they chase down leads through bars, strip clubs and biker haunts. Their search brings them ever closer and they discover a horror they never could have imagined going on in this outlaw motorcycle gang.

This was a great book and it gave us a different look at MC in romance novels. The market is flooded now with MC romance and I’m a huge fan of it but it does glamorize the abuse of women. I, being a woman, am obviously against violence toward women. I felt that this was probably a closer to the truth depiction of women’s lives in an MC. Maybe not to the full extent of this story but close. If you like military romantic suspense, pick this one up you won’t be sorry.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.

Review

WARNING: This is not your average Kresley Cole novel. It’s a journey into a world of dark, erotic fantasy. If any of that bothers you, steer clear. If not, grab a fan, aim it at yourself and turn that son of a bitch on high!

Natalie Porter is just a normal young woman. She goes to school, hangs out with her friends and works mulitple jobs. She’s adopted and has been searching for her biological father. She hired a private investigator to find him, hence the need for multiple jobs. She’s out with friends one night, manalyzing, analyzing men, when she sees an overwhelming and dangerous looking man. Something about him draws her to him. She approaches him but he rebuffs her. After that, she decides to call it a night and heads home. While she gets ready for a bath, she thinks she hears her room mate come in. During her bath, she thinks of her encounter with the man at the bar. She thinks about him so much, she starts to pleasure herself to the memory of his face. During the throes of her passion, she opens her eyes to see him standing in her bathroom, watching her. Creeper! Stalker alert!

Sevastyn is an enforcer for the Russian Mafiya and he works for Natalie’s biological father. He’s been sent to watch her and to bring her to Russia. Everything about her pushes his buttons. Buttons that lead to his dark desires and secrets. He know that nothing can come from this attraction. She’s a Mafiya princess and he’s her father’s enforcer. He bascially kidnaps her and takes her to Russia but…they have a sexy interlude on the plane. If I’d get service like that, I book my flight right now!

That’s the premise of this very sexy book that I enjoyed reading greatly. I’m a huge Kresley Cole fan and have read everything she’s written except her YA series. Cole has a wicked sense of humor and thankfully you get some of that in this book. You also get blistering sex scenes. Cole usually gives you steamy love scenes but YOWZA, this was a whole different animal altogehter. Erotic love scenes coupled with a scarred hero and a heroine who wants to love him, not fix him, this is a fast paced fuck-a-thon. It would’ve been a five star read for me but it was a little too heavy BDSM for me. It did however have a very alpha male lead and I was all over that.

You have no idea how your situation is affecting me. I’ve been stress-eating my way across Greece.“-Jess
“You don’t stress-eat”– Natalie
“Cock, Natalie. I was stress-eating cock. There, you made me say it, happy now?”-Jess

“My woman is getting so wet.”-Sevastyn

“I want to feel how hard my woman comes.”-Sevastyn

“Turn around so I can see what’s mine.”-Sevastyn
