Expectations. They’re not always fair but they are what they are. Expectations are what happened to this book for me.
Enter Drew Evans. He’s very wealthy, very ambitious, very good looking, very nicely built and very much a douche bag of the highest order. He knows that he is and freely admits it. His treatment of the female species is abhorrent. You can’t blame him for all of it though. The women are never given promises of more than a hookup. And anybody that has said hookup in a public restroom at a bar, kinda has it coming to them. Not judging but that behavior is gross. One night while he’s out on the town, he sees a beautiful brunette. He puts the moves on her and she rebuffs him. He’s flabbergasted but not deterred.
Kate Brooks has just landed the job she’s always wanted and is out celebrating. She runs into a suave, good looking man who promptly puts the full court press on her. She finds him charming if also cocky. After turning him down, she shows up at her new job the next day, only to find out that he is not only her new coworker but his father is her boss. Not to mention, Drew is still in full pursuit of her even after she announces to him that’s she’s engaged.
After reading all the rave reviews for this book, I was excited to read it. I just wasn’t as impressed as apparently the rest of the readers were. Drew’s douchebaggery status was of epic proportions despite his being a bit endearing. Watching him fall was a true delight. Kate was almost perfect, almost. She kissed Drew not once but twice when she was engaged to marry another man. I didn’t like that at all. That’s cheating just so you know. This wasn’t a bad book and the dialogue was fantastic but I wasn’t blown away by it. I will say that I did enjoy reading from the male POV.
