To Chuito the apartment was a self-imposed prison for a lifetime of sins. To Alaine, the girl next door, it was salvation from her overbearing, religious father.
He was a devil.
She was an angel.
Two people who should’ve never met, let alone become friends, but it’s not until they give into the dangerous passion that’s been simmering under the surface for five years that things go to hell.
On the outside, Chuito ‘The Slayer’ Garcia is on top of the world. He’s successful. He’s wealthy. He’s a champion MMA fighter surrounded by friends who support him, but they don’t know what he was before he came to Garnet.
Now his past is churning up demons he can’t ignore. Chuito knows he needs to go back to Miami to end it, but there’s something holding him back, a single temptation he can’t resist before leaving.
She’s the one drug he can’t give up…even if it destroys them both.
“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.” – Chuito Garcia
We first meet Chuito and Alaine in The Viper (which I fucking LOVED). Chuito was an asshole and I couldn’t wait to read his story and watch him get taken down by a woman. This book starts in the present but flip flops through past and present to give us a real insight of Chuito and Aliaine’s relationship.
Chu is a drugged out, gang banging thug whose on his way to MMA stardom. Alaine is a college student studying to be an attorney. Her father is a preacher who wants her to give up her dreams of a better education and settle down with a nice church going man.
Chu and Alaines back story is really good. But there is so much more to this than just Chuito and Alaine. This book is an intricate web of people and story lines. Los Corredores, Italian Mafia, MMA, gang wars and even a little BFF bromance. This book is hot, sexy, funny and just all around good. Kele Moon is a sexpert at writing her sex scenes. Oh… my… GAWD! They are hot!
“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.”
“I’m gonna draw this out as long as possible.” He confessed like it was a sin. “Cause taking what isn’t mine gets me off.”
The humor! LOVED IT! It was perfectly hilarious and well timed.
“You just told me you manscaped. You’re fucked up too.”
“It’s a common courtesy,” Tino went on. “No woman wants to suck on a hairy dick.”
“She’s not gonna need feminine products,” Tino said with a bark of laughter. “I guarantee you she’s pregnant after last night.”
“Motherfucker-” Chuito started with a glare.
“I’m just saying,” Tino said with another laugh. “It sounded like she got pregnant.”
There are some parts of this book that I felt seemed to drag. Since I never read the Battered Hearts series, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. There are a lot of details that, to me, felt like a set up for books to come or it was details to explain the previous series? Either way, it was a lot and I felt myself spacing off some and having to reread. This could also be personal since I’m in a bit of a book funk. So, I’ll let you decide how you feel about that. 🙂
Overall, I enjoyed it. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments. The sex and action were spot on amazing and gave me heart palpitations! Some of the details left me spacing a little but I do believe they are all very important to the story. Kele Moon is an extremely talented writer and I would HIGHLY recommend anything she writes.
I received a copy of this book via As the Pages Turn in exchange for an honest review.
A freckle faced, redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.
So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.
