The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
It took me a long time to commit to reading this book. Everyone loved it but it struck me as YA/NA and I’m not crazy about either genre since I like detailed on page sex. I finally broke down and read it.
Abby Abernathy just wanted to start over somewhere fresh where no one new her or her father. Eastern College fit the bill and she enjoys the school. She pretty much keeps to herself with the exception of America, her BFF. The lower the profile, the less chance of recognition. She attends an underground fight with her BFF and her BFF’s boyfriend. At that fight she sees Travis Maddox.
Travis Maddox is a good student, great fighter and a huge man-whore. He will literally sleep with almost anyone. I’m not bagging on him, it’s all consensual. He uses the money he gets from his fights to live on and help pay for his tuition. He lives with his cousin, Shepley, who dates America. When he sees Abby in her cardigan sweater at his fight, he instantly drawn to her.
The two start a flirtatious friendship and become best friends, despite Travis’ reputation. As their friendship goes, it’s Travis’ who falls for Abby first. Abby realizes she has feelings for him too but she’s much more cautious in the beginning.
This story was too angsty for me. Felt too young for me. It was a good read if you don’t mind non descriptive sex. It was a true example of most NA romances. I liked the characters but truly wanted to slap them at times. They weren’t doing anything terrible but just what people their ages would do. It was a sweet romance but Travis turned a bit too beta for me. I might read her Maddox Brothers series but I’ll have to check out the level of love scene description first.
