Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s “favorite son,” Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be “maid” for love.

Review

I have enjoyed Marie Force’s books for a long time. Somehow, I lost track of her and I now have to apologize to her. I’m sorry for it because her books are fantastic. I know this book is from 2011 but I just got to it. Now, after reading it, I’m pissed it took so long for me to get it read. Once I started, I read it in less than 24 hours.

Maddie is a hometown girl with a horrific reputation. She works as a maid at a local resort in the housekeeping department. It’s a shit job but she has a nine month old son and we do what we have to do to take care of our children. She’s a town pariah, labeled a slut. The townspeople treat her terrible and she gets continued bad treatment at work. Maddie takes it all quietly so she doesn’t attract anymore notice.

Mac McCarthy has just come home to recoup after an anxiety attack and literally collides with Maddie. This collision leaves Maddie injured badly. Mac has a lot on his plate with his business and the threat of his parents retiring the family legacy. Now, he has just ran into a woman and injured her. He takes responsibility for his actions. Over and above really.

I loved both of these characters. They both touched me so much. Maddie and the hardships that she endured. Mac and his knight in shining armor ways. I loved that he was unaware of the rumors about Maddie and when he became aware of them, he fought to slay her dragons. Love the series and will continue on. It really is swoon worthy.
