“Killing someone is hard work. Harder than it looks in the movies.”

I loved this book! I’ve been struggling with a bit of burn out lately and this is exactly what I needed. This book has an amazing story with a bit of erotic romance and BDSM elements all throughout. In my opinion this has a perfect mix of murder, mystery, suspense and romance.

While investigating a possible serial killer, Detective Silver also discovers a lot about herself and what makes her happy. She meets Anderson through a mutual friend and he is Silver’s “inside guy” that introduces her to the world of BDSM so she can catch a killer that is hiding in that world. This is where Silver starts to understand more about herself and finally figures out what has been missing in her life.

“If I wanted him, I had to make it happen. My responsibility. If I want to be happy, it’s my choice to make. It’s easy to say, but it is not just saying, today I’m going to be happy. You have to risk what you have this moment for what you want in the next.”

There were times when Silver was getting on my nerves. She seemed to be a taker and not a giver when it came to Anderson. I get it that the BDSM lifestyle is new to her and this is exactly what men used to do with her, but you don’t have to turn around and do the same thing to someone else, unless that is what they want. Which it’s not what Anderson wanted. However, I really liked Silver’s overall character as well as Anderson and all the other side characters. I think they were well developed and believable.

I really love all the local references. I was born and raised in Kansas City and still live here. KCK is my old stomping grounds and that is where all my family lives. Overland park, KCK, Northland, downtown area, just everywhere! I especially loved the reference to Missie B’s, Hayes Hamburgers and several other local places. I use to go to Missie B’s a lot in my 20’s. I loved the Drag shows! All I remember is Flo. Probably because my sisters exgirlfriend use to bounce there. One thing I don’t know is, where in the world are all the dungeons? But anyway… back to the story.

This was a fantastic mystery and it kept me guessing until it was time for me to know who, what, when and why! There were moments that made me feel like my heart was going to beat out of my chest and I couldn’t read fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. I loved it!!

The sex was excellent! But my favorite part was at about 14% in when Silver was “like a cat marking her territory”. YAAASSSS! You go girl!!

description

I also liked the first meeting that Silver and Anderson had. I really hate anything to do with feet, so this is pretty significant for me. Very well done! Bravo! Actually all the sex scenes are really good and erotic.

So why 4.5 stars? Only because there were moments in the middle of this book that seemed to drag on. I couldn’t pinpoint which one, but sometimes I was tired of hearing about Silver’s internal struggle with drinking and not knowing who she is and how she didn’t want Anderson around unless she wanted to use him for something. All I really wanted was to read more about the investigation.

One thing I don’t like (but has nothing to do with my rating) while reading any book is the overuse of the word “passion”. It’s worse than the word “moist. The word Passion is not overused in this book and is probably only used 3 or 4 times. The reason I bring it up is because I think that word gets overused so much that it really stands out to me when I read. I have come to hate that word and anytime I hear it, I cringe. I’m not a wordsmithing word wizard so I have no idea what you would use in its place. That is just my personal opinion and issue. I’m sure 99.9% of the people out there are fine with that word, I’m just the weird one.

Overall this entire book is a great read and will keep you glued to the pages. There is a reason why this book won the BDSM Writers Con Golden Flogger Award for Best BDSM book of the year. I loved it 🙂

Drury Jamison is not a bestselling author, yet. But he believes hard work will prevail. He has been writing since he could read beginning with, what we now call fan fiction, stories about favorite DC Comics heros. Since then he gave all his attention to the story at the expense of the rules making rewriting very important.

Born an Army brat he finally settled and came to call the Missouri Ozarks home. While raising wonderful kids and failing at everything else, he wrote screenplays, television scripts, advertising copy and filthy limericks. After many twists, and multiple once-in-a-lifetime life changing events, he returned to work on the short stories and novels he loved best.

Review ~ White Trash: Taking the Billionaire’s Daughter by Viv Phoenix

Title: White Trash: Taking the Billionaire’s Daughter

Beware: One part dirty instalove, one part captive-woman BDSM dark romance, one part horror. White Trash is not traditional romance. It includes graphic, scary and sexual material some readers may find disturbing.
White Trash is a short read—if you want a longer book, go get one. 🙂
***********************************************
Down in the hollow, Callum devours women’s dirty books. Now he’s ready to take the billionaire’s daughter who needs him to be her alpha. Sy just doesn’t know what’s good for her. Yet.

Callum
Sy Thompson’s supposed to be too good for me.

She’s new in town, lives in a mansion up the hill with her frowning parents. I can’t stop watching her. The curvy beauty’s full, lickable body puts my neck out. She’s everything I’m not supposed to have: wealth, polished beauty, purity.

In one night under me, she’ll find out she loves getting dirty. One night, and she’ll know I’m more than enough for her.
She’s going to beg me, and I’m not going to stop until she’s mine.

Sy
Callum looked dangerous-hot, like he might be wanted for something, something real bad.

He scared me from the minute I caught him staring at me. His pale eyes show his dirty, dirty thoughts. Thick muscles writhe when he loads his big truck.
His tattoos make me want to explore his off-limits body.

He’s the kind of man my mother warns me about, a bad man. I know about bad boys. He’s worse.
A man like Callum Blake, he won’t take no for an answer.

If you’re prone to getting freaked out by graphic sex, dirty words, scary scenes, horror, crime fiction, or dark romance, don’t read this book. If you’re easily offended or triggered, don’t even think about reading White Trash. I mean it. This book is way outside the comfort zone for most readers.
Readers like me who find thrills in the dark: This is for you.

Are you kidding me??!! I loved this! I downloaded this just because of the warning 😀 and it was free at the time I downloaded it. It has an awesome cover and catchy title! I must also mention that there really isn’t any billionaires” in this. I mean, Sy is rich, but that is certainly not the focus. I’m really glad for that because I am totally sick of anything related to billionaires right now.

I loved this short story. It was almost everything the warning promised me. I know the author said White Trash is a short read—if you want a longer book, go get one. 🙂 but this was so fantastic, that I really hope Viv Phoenix might expand on this story later. I mean, Callum has brothers. *wink *wink

Speaking of the warning, it does say that this is one part BDSM… well, in my opinion that isn’t entirely true. Maybe an introductory level BDSM and on the very light side. Callum does his homework on Sy so he can make her his. Sy happens to read books that have alpha males and are BDSM themed. So, there is some Master/slave talk in here and one very short spanking/punishment scene. Another part of the warning says one part horror. Again, in my opinion, I wouldn’t consider this horror. Dark? Probably yes or maybe a charcoal gray? This seems to be more of a suspense or thriller. Now, with having said all that, this… White Trash is not traditional romance. It includes graphic, scary and sexual material some readers may find disturbing. is absolutely true and readers should be cautioned.

I gave this 4.5 stars. Why? Callum. I wish he wasn’t so simple minded. It seems that he was raised in a “House of 1000 Corpses” kind of way and extremely hillbilly. Which is good for the story and I get having some hillbillyish ways, but I wish he didn’t seem so slow. He is pretty creepy though.

“Only thing that could make Sy Thompson prettier would be a big load of my sperm across her pink cheeks. I’d been making tributes on her pictures, so I knew that for sure. Girl looked her best covered in her master’s baby batter.”

description

Callum also has a monster cock. It’s so big that he needs to be careful when he gets hard or he can risk passing out from blood loss to his head. This absolutely cracks me the fuck up every time its referenced. I have seen some monster cock porn and I’m sure he could split Sy in half.

“I made myself do multiplication tables to keep from getting a complete boner. Being big, I got woozy when I got hard.”

Sy Thompson? She is pretty much a TSTL character. Or is she? She is walking around town in those daisy duke shorts, adoring the looks she is getting and she knows who Callum is. Did she plan this? Is she really the mastermind behind this?

Overall, this is a short and fantastic read! Before you pick this up, read the warning the author gives and see if this is something for you. I would love to read more about Callum and Sy and maybe the rest of the Blake clan. This book is listed at $2.99. I wouldn’t pay that much for a short story that is less than 50 pages. I would for sure pay $.99 for it or you can get it on Kindle Unlimited. This is the first time I’ve read this author and I will for sure be reading her again.

Pleasure has never felt so good.

But can Michael fully let go of his trust issues and fall in love? Or will his past leave Natalie on the edge of pain?

Review

Have you ever been around a complete stranger and suddenly felt completely captivated or drawn in like a fish on an invisible hook? Our story starts with complete strangers meeting in an elevator with very strong sexual tension oozing out of both Michael and Natalie. We’re off to a great start but we find out that Natalie has a live-in boyfriend who works long hours and has a sexy boss that has made it no secret, she has a mega crush on Natalie’s man. Then Natalie is unapologetically flirty with the domineering Michael. I can immediately see where this is going. I’ve read books with cheaters. Although I don’t like cheaters, I do understand that its sometimes necessary for the story development, so I get it. This is one of those stories so I won’t focus on that part of the story too much.

There were some funny moments in here. Like Natalie secretly hoping that broccoli chunks get stuck in some bitches mouth or needing more cow bell. It was just so out of the blue that it struck my funny bone pretty hard.

description

The sexual tension was palpable and I really liked it. However, Im the one who needed release. Tension is good but I felt so bad for Natalie at times when she couldn’t get what she craved and needed. I know… I get it…. Hes the one in control and she was being punished. Im just saying that when that girl did orgasm, Im pretty sure I felt that all the way out here in Kansas.

description

Natalie’s insistent internal dialogue is dry humping my last nerve. There was just a lot of back and forth and back and forth and back and forth… OH and did I say, back and forth? Yes. A lot of back and forth.

description

Games, Michael and his games. Games are fun especially with Michael but who wants to play with someone who always insists on winning and acting like such a sore loser.

description

And then this…

“This won’t count.” And Before I had a chance to respond, he yanked my hair, down there, so hard, that on cue I yelled, “Ouch!” He laughed, a heartfelt laugh, and I couldn’t help but laugh too, nervous energy exiting my body.”

Really… What. In. The. FUCK!?
description

Oh hell no! My first reaction would be to throat punch you!
description

Then we come to one of my hard limits. Well, maybe a semi-hard limit really because I can handle a little food with some sexy scenes. For example a little cupcake icing on the nipple and then put the fucking cupcake away because, for me, that is nasty! I just can’t do it. This one scene made me cringe. It wasn’t a small scene either. It went on and on and on like the Energizer Bunny. Honestly, all I can picture is if you get hair in it and end up with a yeast infection. I know some people like this and that is okay. Its definitely not for me though.

Okay. Let’s talk about Natalie. She is supposed to be this strong, independent woman, a feminist in College and currently owns and runs a business she and her BFF built. But she is quickly reduced to a begging, cry baby that has fallen deeply and unequivocally in love with this practical stranger. Call it what it is. Lust. I feel that she lets Michael walk all over her. I know, I know… these are new feelings to her and she isn’t sure how to process them or understand them. I get it.

description

description

Now Michael. He’s strong, smart, independent, domineering and always seems in control. There were times where I wanted to scream at him and tell him to stop being a hypocrite. The games is the part that really irritated me. Games are supposed to be fun but there is always that one kid who takes things too seriously and makes it not fun for anyone else. Michael is that kid.

description

I will say that I thought the writing was really good and everything flowed well for me. I had my ups and downs with this, but for sure my ups were when Michael and Natalie were together. Made me squeeze my legs together. Like I’ve already said, the sexual tension is palpable and there were times where I wanted to smack Michael in the back of the head and just give that girl and orgasm! I think he got off on torturing himself. I am very curious about his past and his trust issues.

description

description

Overall, it was just okay for me. There were some things I liked and some that I didn’t… ahem FOOD. But hey… to each their own right? The sex and sexual tension were sublime. The writing was really good. Natalie and Michael were just sort of in the middle of the road for me. I think I liked Michael more than I liked Natalie. I guess I wanted Natalie to be stronger emotionally. There are a lot of really good reviews out about this and for the most part, I agree with what they say. For myself.. I hope the next one is better. 🙂

I can’t remember not reading. Even now, I constantly toggle between two to five books on my Kindle in all genres. But I have always been drawn to the more taboo side of storytelling, even as a young adult, from hiding books from my strict Catholic parents as a teen, to getting lost in the erotic section of my favorite bookstore for hours as a college student, discovering such greats as Henry Miller and Pauline Réage.

In my own writing, which I can’t describe as anything but a trance-like compulsion, I like to explore the darker nature of relationships, those riddled with the reality of insecurities and human folly. I am drawn to expose the vulnerability, emotional turmoil, and occasional pain that can come from losing oneself in the heat of passion.

I hold a degree in English literature and happily reside in the Northeast with my ever-patient spouse and children, where my writing comes from some hidden, unrecognizable place, very different from the reality of my waking world. I am in love with E.E. Cummings and try to embrace the philosophical idea of “Since Feeling is First” when I write my stories.
