Mindy’s Adventure to the 2016 BDSM Writers Con in Everett WA

Well here we are again… I feel like I just wrote a review on the 2015 BDSM Writers Con in NYC last August. Oh wait! I did 😀 You can read that review HERE if you like.

So, BDSM Writers Con is officially bicoastal, holding their first ever West Coast conference in Everett Washington on March 31 – April 3, 2016. I am honored to have been a part of that and witnessed its success. Also… this is the ONLY conference in the world that is dedicated to educating readers and writers about BDSM.

I’ve got to admit… this is my favorite book conference that I’ve ever been to. Why? Because its informative, educational, interactive and everyone treats you as if you are part of the family. Yes, this is a conference for writers of BDSM but it is also a conference for readers, bloggers, lifestylers, the curious, the vanilla and the open minded. I have learned so much since my first BWC (BDSM Writers Con) in NYC and what I have learned can also be used in my everyday life. I have discovered things that I can use at work, at my kids school, at home in and out of the bedroom. So with all that being said, I would like to thank Dr. Charley Ferrer for putting together a great conference and shinning a positive light on this literary genre and lifestyle and putting the correct information out there. I also wanted to give a shout out to Rose C. Carole because I know she works a lot behind the scenes. Thank you for all the hard work you do so people like me can have all the fun. ❤

I’ll be seeing you all at the next BDSM Writers Con NYC this coming August 18-21 2016!

Here it goes… I MUST gush about my BWC experience in Everett Washington. I have been so excited about this since the BWC in NYC ended and I immediately registered for the Everett Con. (Side note… if you are considering going to the next con, I would highly recommend registering ASAP. You can put it in a payment plan and that is definitely the way to go. Email me if you have questions.) Anyway, I planned my dungeon outfit months in advance and actually ended up with two different styles. Bonus for me! The closer the Everett Con got, the more excited I became. I was like a super charged energizer bunny!

I’m very lucky because I get to go on this adventure with one of my best friends from KC, Dee. Dee and I boarded the plane and sat next to a very nice (and attractive) military man named Rich from Alaska. Dee does not like to fly and she had squeezed my hand so hard that not only did she leave finger indentions, but actual finger prints on my hand. LOL! But Dee survived take off and was fine for the rest of the flight. I also need to give her kudos because on the way home, she did a really good job and didn’t even hold my hand.

We arrive in Seattle and have a car waiting for us which was an amazing, sleek and sexy town car. I know… who cares…. it’s just a car. But that car was just for me and Dee only and that is what makes it special for us. It got dark pretty fast, so we didn’t really get to see a lot on the way to the hotel, however we did get to see the space needle from the highway. 🙂

Since I poorly planned the timing of our trip, Dee and I were late (but not too late) to the unofficial kick off meet and greet at Blue Water Distilling. I had the special drink they made our group called “Spank Me” and it was AMAZBALLS! I’m not a drinker and this was so delicious. After we all had our Spank Me drink and ate, Dr. Charley had everyone go around the room and introduce themselves; authors, readers/bloggers, editors, publishers or whatever you wanted to say about yourself in 60 seconds or less, just like a munch. This is why I wanted to go to the kickoff at Blue Water Distilling and if you are new to BWC then I highly recommend you attend this kickoff. I promise you… it will make you more comfortable while at the conference and you get to meet people just like YOU. 🙂

Ahh! Day one BWC. Dee and I wake up REALLY early because we are still on KC time. So we decide to go outside for a nice brisk walk. WELL… I had no idea the temperature would be in the 30’s (or so it felt). So we used the hotel gym instead and then decided to brave the cold to walk to the nearest coffee stand. We went to Marathon Coffee and it was DAMN good coffee. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Anyway, we walked back to the hotel and got ready for the day’s activities.

Registration is from 9am to 11am. I have a raffle ticket addiction from BWC in NYC so I purchased some raffle tickets to win some super awesome prizes and I did win some really kick ass stuff. Dee and I took a stroll down what I call vendor alley. They have the best stuff in vendor alley. I wanted to buy everything but knew I needed to pace myself. After this I got to meet one of my favorite authors, Reed James! He is so awesome 😀 When he told me that he was also going to this conference I jumped up and squealed with excitement. I just about pissed myself. LOL!

Then the opening ceremony with Dr. Charley and our Keynote Speaker triple dipped in awesome sauce, Tiffany Reisz. Tiffany Reisz gave the most amazing speech ever and I really hope she gets around to posting it online for everyone to read. It’s very insightful and touching and I actually teared up a bit that morning. Fantastic author and we were all in the presence of greatness. If you haven’t read her books yet… you are missing out. Fantastic author and her words are like magic the way they come together so perfectly.

Now the conference is really getting started. For each time session you get two workshops to choose from. This way you can create your own experience. Kind of like a “choose your adventure” book. I’m only writing about the workshops that I attended and I wish I could have attended all of them. If you want to see the entire program schedule, CLICK HERE. You can also register for the next BWC in New York this coming August 😉 Now let the festivities begin!

First is “BDSM Truths“. What Everyone Should Know presented by Dr. Charley Ferrer. I attended this workshop in NYC and it was essentially the same. What I like about this is that it gives everyone a tiny taste of whats to come. It covers a very broad spectrum of BDSM in general. But we only have an hour so Dr. Charley picks a few things out and discusses that. My favorite part about this is when Dr. Charley has everyone try out what it feels like to be Dominate and Submissive in the most basic of ways and then asks us (if you want to) how it felt in each of those positions. Some are more comfortable in the Dominate position and some are more comfortable in the submissive position.

Next is “Negotiations and BDSM Etiquette“, presented by Allena, CSPC (Center for Sex Positive Culture). First let me say that Allena is a really good speaker. She brought up a lot of great information and talked about the importance of safety. There are creeps everywhere in the world and Allena provided some great tips on being safe, negotiating and BDSM club etiquette. She gave everyone a handout called “10 Golden Rules for Negotiations (by Master Dale of masterdale.com). I’m not going to go into great detail about that because I truly believe that everyone should come to this conference and find out for yourself. Allena brought up points that I would have never thought about, like a safety call and making sure that the other person asks about any health issues such as bad knees or whatever. Allena really makes you feel at ease and lets everyone know that we are not alone and we are all people just like everyone else.

After that is “BDSM & The Law“, presented by NCSF (National Coalition for Sexual Freedom): Judy and Richard. The other workshop that was going on at the same time was The “History of Birch” presented by the amazing Delilah Marvelle. Unfortunately I did not attend either of these workshops. I did attend the BDSM & the Law while I was in NYC last August and it was really eye opening. I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when Dr. Charley announces the raffle winners which is done at the end of the days workshops. My KC friends and I had such good luck last year that I was hoping to have the same luck this year. Well… no luck today. Ginger was the big winner 🙂 Lucky girl and she totally deserved all of it. She has such a wonderful and positive attitude.

As our day comes to an end, we all venture off to have some snacks and drinks at the Terracotta Red Restaurant. They were delicious, but I needed substance. Dee, Reed James and I went to Denny’s. Yes… Denny’s and it was exactly what I needed at the time. 🙂 Then it was time to go back to our hotel rooms and get a good nights rest for the next days shenanigans.

Good Morning BWC! Dee and I woke up early again, went to Denny’s with Reed for some breakfast then headed back to BWC. The first workshop was “The Good, the Bad, and the Poly” presented by Allena, CSPC. I don’t really know anything about polyamory so that is why I decided to sit in on this workshop. Again, Allena is a wonderful speaker and had a hand out called “Some of Our Principles We Try to Live and Relate By”. I am very happy for anyone that can successfully do this. I am way too jealous of a person to share my husband and I have a ton of insecurities and it would eat at my brain and heart. However I really appreciate Allena’s point of view on it. I really wish I could remember exactly what she said about accepting in your heart and the jealousy significantly decreasing and/or going away. I also really like the family and support part of the poly lifestyle. You can tell that she is loved and has lots of love to give. It was very touching and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her and hearing her story.

For me…. I still wouldn’t be able to live this way because I’ll throat punch someone.

The next workshop is “Demystifying Dominant women & submissive men“, presented by the amazing Rhiannon Ayers. Right before the BWC I had just finished the BDSM Writers Con Anthology 2015 (my review here) which included authors, by Roz Lee, Arlee Scott, Gray Dixon, Kestra Gravier, Cris Anson, Elizabeth SaFleur, Becca Jameson, Alaska Angelini, Rhiannon Ayers and edited by Charley Ferrer. Rhiannon had a short story in there called The “Pleasure Is All Mine” and I absofuckinglutley loved it! Sorry if I got my fangirl all over the place and I got to ride the elevator with her. I tried to keep myself under control. Ahem… back on track here. So Rhiannon had a wonderful workshop on Dominant women and what it means for her. She is educating others on breaking the stereotype of a Dominant woman. Not everyone is dressed like a Dominatrix and makes men wear pink underwear. There are some out there who do, but that is not the majority. I really appreciated the light she shined on the topic and I hope to hear more about Dominate women at future conferences.

Up next on the agenda is “Realistic Sex, Really?” presented by the romance, sci-fi and fantasy author Jean Johnson. I really enjoyed this workshop and I’m not an author. She has a way of explaining things in such a way that makes you feel like maybe you are having that same experience. I loved that she encourages authors/aspiring authors to “try it for yourself” if you can. You have to make sure that you have all the body parts in the right areas and that people can move that way. I have read books where there is no possible way a guy can be eating a girl out and kissing her at the same time while finger fucking her ass. Yes… this happens. Jean Johnson sounds like she really does her homework to bring the reader the most realistic and entertaining stories possible. I have added all her books to my TBR. 🙂

Another workshop I attended was “Switched ON! -Living Life on Both Sides of The Slash“. Very interesting workshop to hear about living as a switch. Plus I really liked that our presenter shared her personal story and pictures of her family with us. That made it more relatable. She also pulled out her giant bag of goodies and told us that we can all shop for kinky toys almost anywhere. Like Bed Bath and Beyond or Home Depot (aka Dom Depot).

Mary Ann presented the next workshop on “Dominance – Taking the Leading Role“. This was an interesting workshop on what it means to be dominant to us personally. We covered some vocabulary to make sure we all understood what some of the lingo means (Dominant, submissive, Top, bottom, Switch). I think this workshop was more focused on authors but it was good to listen in on.

After the last workshop everyone moves into vendor ally to hear who won the raffles. And guess what…. I WON A CANE from Rods by Rane! Its so fucking pretty ❤ and there is a twist in it that gives is a little extra bite. I love it and have already used it. Thank you Rods by Rane for the wonderful raffle prize 🙂

Finally Saturday! This is my most favorite part of the conference. Its demo day and then an evening in the dungeon. I’m so fucking excited I can hardly contain myself. BUT I do have to be out in the general public so I need to act cool….

First workshop is “Canes“. Wow! Just… wow! What a sensational and informative workshop. We learned about the materials Hunter uses for his canes (rods) and how to properly use the cane. He talked about safety and places on the body that you will want to avoid, such as the kidney area (which is the same for all impact play). Different sizes and shapes have different feelings and can leave different marks. So, when Hunter asked who wanted to try it out… guess who volunteered first 😉 you guessed it… ME! After I was asked a few safety questions, I bent over the couch arm and proudly presented my jean covered ass and was rewarded with some really tasty strikes across my derriere. I did not want it to end, but unfortunately, I was not the only person in the room who wanted to try. Close to the end of the workshop, our presenter and his lovely assistant demonstrated how he uses his rods with music. It was very beautiful and the way the rods/canes are made, reflect the light magnificently AND it really is an eye catching and interesting show. This workshop was by far my most favorite and I really hope this one comes back year after year.

P.S. Later when I saw our presenter in the dungeon I wanted to ask for another tasting but he was popular and I didn’t get a chance. Note to self… set that shit up EARLY 😉

Spanking, Flogging and Impact Play… oh my!” This is another workshop presented by Mary Ann who is fantastic to listen to and watch. I know she is known as the “Sweet and Innocent Domme“, and I can see how she can draw you in because she has a sweet and calming presence about her. However, she will warn you herself, that she isn’t all that sweet when she has a flogger or paddle in her hand. She went over various impact play devices, games you can play with them and even busted out some pop rocks. 😉

Next was “Interrogations and Edge Play” and I was SOOOO looking forward to this one and I was not disappointed. This workshop is more on the hardcore side of BDSM which is what I like. He talked about safety first, negotiation, mind fucks, kidnapping, gay porn and jerk off material. My ears perk up like someone just said FREE CHEESECAKE! My mouth is watering and my heart rate kicked up a notch and I cant wait to hear more. Also, if you know me then you know I super love gay porn. Men are sexy and even sexier when they are together. Mmmmm DELICIOUS!

Our presenter pulled out his ginormous bag of goodies and talked about each of them and passed a few around so we could all get a better look and feel. He brought a very beautiful assistant with him and together they demonstrated negotiations and how to negotiate from yes, instead of no. For example, I ask if using a cane is okay and you say yes. Then I ask where specifically and you can tell me not on the head and feet but everywhere else is okay. That is negotiating from yes. Anyway, our presenter asked someone from the room to pick a toy and he would use it on his assistant. Someone said clothes pins, which seemed to be the least painful option. Well… I guess it depends on how you use them. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and this is another one I think should be brought back year after year. There is a lot of information to cover in this workshop and I don’t think we even scratched the surface.

Up next is the “SM Exploratorium“. This workshop had a lot of different presenters. One of them was Lady Linda from Lover’s Lair Inc. I attended this workshop last year and DeTails Toys was the presenter. This workshop (in NYC) is where I discovered my love for flogging. I also came home with a special souvenir from that workshop and had little bruises on my ass. I was looking to do the same this year. Well, it was not the same but I did still enjoy it. There were five different stations set up with various floggers, electrical play, paddles, nipple thingies, boot blacking, blood play and so much more. My friend Dee went to the other class that was going on at the same time, Violet Wand with Traveling Fool. So it was just Reed and I in here together. Although I learned about new and interesting things, I would have really liked it if we could have felt what it was like for someone who knew what they were doing to use it on us. On the flip side of that, we did get to touch everything and everyone was very open and did show us how to use some of the items. Christine let me try my hand at flogging her 🙂

Then here we are… the very last raffle of the conference and I have most of my raffle tickets in the Whip donated by Quality Whips. I also put in for the beautiful blue rod donated by Rods by Rane and then finally, a cute blindfold, nipple clamps and a ball gag donated by StockRoom. And guess what again…. I won the blindfold, nipple clamps and the ball gag from StockRoom!! YEAH! The ball gag is too big for me, but it does fit my husband perfectly. 😉

After the raffle, there were so many fun things I wanted to buy at vendor alley and I had been eyeing this leather slapper or a red crop from Lady Linda at Lover’s Lair inc. I decided to buy the leather slapper. It fit well in my hand and I really liked the weight of it. I have used it a couple times now and I really enjoy getting spanked and also spanking my husband with it. I also have to give a shout out to Lady Linda. She is super nice and informative and also a little scary. I really enjoyed talking to her and I love the wide variety of toys she had to offer.

And now, the moment we have all be waiting for… DUNGEON night!

I went to the dungeon in NY at the last BWC. It was interesting but didn’t really work out well for me because it was way too crowded and I didn’t get to try anything out. But this year BWC brought the dungeon to us! Right in the hotel and we didn’t have to go anywhere. People were working all day and night to put this thing together and they did a wonderful job. Bravo to all of you that worked your asses off to bring this amazing experience to our front door.

Dee and I head up to our room to get ready and we are super excited and nervous. But more excited than nervous. We have had our outfits planned for a while and now we get to wear them in public. By the way…. Dee looked amazing!

I’m over here like…. I’m gonna get spanked like I just took the last Oreo cookie in a room full of starving people!

So Dee and I meet Reed in the lobby and head off to the dungeon.

Dee… I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore. At first it was awkward. Nobody really knew what to do so we all walked in just checking things out.

Then things started to happen. There was someone on the St. Andrews Cross getting whipped with a singletail in one corner, there was some heavy impact play about halfway in, then the bondage chair started out with a little knife play and then moved to some vampire gloves and other delightful and delicious things. The violet wand was in another corner and then a bondage suspension station in another corner. Which… if you ever get the opportunity to watch, it really is pretty spectacular to witness. In the next room was another St. Andrews Cross and a boot blacking station. There was quite a bit of screaming and laughter all over the place. It was awesome!

All my senses were on overload and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I want to try everything but I have on a damn corset and I’m for sure not taking that thing off. So I end up just watching for a while.

Master Brian walks over to us and asks if this is our first time in a dungeon. We talk for a bit and he asks me if I would like to learn how to use a singletail whip. HELLZ YES! So he is talking to me about the materials, how to spot a good one vs a bad one and talks about the length and how to get that cracking sound from the whip. He lets me see what it feels like so Im not so scared of it and I’ll admit… it was pretty nice. A quiet and sweet little sting. I was so scared of these things because I have seen what they can do to the skin. Well… I’m not afraid anymore. Master Brian was amazing and showed me the “East and West Coast” style (I think that’s what it’s called. It’s a side to side swing). I didn’t get to learn for too much longer because Master Brian got called to the suspension station to help. We didn’t stay too much longer after that. The conference has a way of zapping the energy right out of you.

Sunday… the official last day of the conference. Dee and I have a VERY difficult time waking up. We slept late and just let the beds suck our bodies into the mattress. But we deserved it. We had been getting up early everyday and the closing ceremony didn’t start until 11:00 am. So we took full advantage. Dr. Charley did the closing ceremony, thanked sponsors, supporters and everyone who helped put the dungeon together. Some people shared their thoughts and experience and it was great listening to each individual one. After that was the Book Fair and a stroll through vendor alley. Then… that was it. I can’t believe it’s over.

Dee and I click our heals together three times and say “there’s no place like home” and off to Kansas we go.

For me, this is my forth book conference and second BDSM Writers Con and as a reader and blogger, it was insightful, energetic, informative and always fun. East coast and West coast have a different atmosphere but in a good way. It was really interesting to see and experience those differences. I have found a family with everyone who attended, presented and organized. This is a conference that ALL writers of BDSM should attend. I would also challenge bloggers, reviewers, the curious and the experienced to attend. Each time you go, there is always something new to learn. I am shy, have serious insecurities and a little bit of an introvert. By attending the unofficial kick off meet and greet, it really does calm your nerves and makes you realize that everyone there is exactly like you. This also helps you relax so you can enjoy the conference. There are several things I love about BWC but one of them is how all the presenters and organizers are very open to questions you might have. They will answer questions as best as they can, if they can and if they can’t, they will direct you to someone who can. As an attendee you get to learn, feel, hear and process different experiences. With the multiple workshop options you can choose what you are most interested in or want to learn more about or skip a workshop and do whatever you want. The dungeon is an entirely different experience. It’s like you get a window into something that you have been curious about but never knew how to get there. BWC brings this to you. You are not required to do anything. This is your conference and your experience so make it what you want.

I also want to give a special shout out to author Reed James for kicking ass and hanging out with little ol’ me.

In my BWC NYC review last August, I also discussed the hotel we stayed at, which you an see HERE. So I will briefly discuss the Holiday Inn that we stayed at in Everett. My first thought when I found out we would be staying and having the dungeon at the Holiday Inn was… really? But to my surprise it was actually a really good experience. All the staff were great and easy to work with. Everyone smiled at you as you walked down the hall. Nobody gave you weird or dirty looks and didn’t treat you as if you had cooties. The cost was VERY reasonable, there was a coffee maker, mini fridge, hot water for the shower and the air conditioning worked. All the things I just mentioned were issues I had while staying at the Doubletree in NYC. Don’t be discouraged… Dr. Charley is looking for a new hotel for the conference this August. 🙂 The Holiday Inn was wonderful and I really enjoyed my stay. When I travel again, I will be seeking out a Holiday Inn.

Mindy’s tips for first timers:

1. Do go to the meet and greet or “unofficial” kickoff. Being new to this convention can be intimidating. Going to this meet and greet will help loosen you up, make new friends and everyone will make you feel comfortable. Everyone at some point has been the new person.

2. Don’t be afraid to approach people. I can be very shy until I get to know someone and I’m a bit of an introvert. So approaching people I don’t know can be difficult. I tend to blend into the background and watch people. It’s ok to blend and watch, but try to put yourself out there. I promise you won’t regret it. Anyone you talk to will be willing to help you, no matter what it is.

3. Do bring a friend or friends. I’m even more of an introvert if I am alone. Having my friends with me helps me feel comfortable and brave and gives me someone to talk to. Going to any convention is even more fun when you bring friends.

4. Don’t over pack for this trip! You will want to save some space in your luggage for all the amazing swag you’ll be getting and all the things you buy from the vendors.

5. Do register for the Con as early as possible to get the best prices. Book your hotel room sooner rather than later. It is no fun to go to a convention in one hotel and then have to go to another to drop off your swag or prizes and then head back. Trust me on this…

6. Don’t feel like you have to attend all the workshops if you don’t want to. Although all the workshops I attended were really good, if you want to rest or do a little sightseeing, then go do it. You are not required to do anything.

7. Do bring something to wear to the BDSM Club. If you are already a party player then you probably have something to wear. If you’re like me and don’t have anything like that in your closet, then you can never go wrong with black. A corset with a black skirt is good and be sure to have some sexy shoes to go with it. If that is not your flavor then a nice black slacks with a black shirt or leather, vinyl, lace or rubber. If you are uncertain, ask Dr. Charley. Actually… I would always double check with her to see what the dress code is.

8. Do ask questions if you are uncertain about something. There is no such thing as a silly question.

9. Do have fun and relax! Enjoy the experience.

So who is ready for BDSM Writers Con in NYC August 18 – 21, 2016 with Keynote speaker Sierra Cartwright. I will be there again and I am SUPER EXCITED to see what new things I can learn and experience.

Review

Sentenced by Roz Lee (BDSM Light)

If this short tidbit is a full length book, fucking sign me up with a quickness! I loved the little taste that I got. Okay Judge Harlow… I’m ready for my punishment.

The Birthday Present by Arlee Scott (BDSM Light)

That is what I call a birthday present from someone who really loves you. WOW! That was an amazing short story and so much happened. Fantastic Domme action and with Jonathan watching and helping… just, panty melting. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

NSFW (Not Safe for Work) by Kestra Gravier (BDSM Light)

LOVED this one! And I wanted it to go on forever! I really enjoyed Matt’s submission the most and how it came about. Filing this one under 2 finger 1 hand read.

“Fuck me, Matt. And this time, you can come when I tell you.”
Like a palace guard keeping his empress from danger, Matt swept Aliz into his arms and strode over to the sideboard. He deposited her on the cold marble top, then wrenched her manhandled sweater fully off.

Guess who’s masturbating tonight!

White Jeans by Elizabeth SaFleur (BDSM Light)

This one was just okay for me. It was still good but at first, I was confused by what Joseph wanted then figured it out. I think this short story is more suited for a book all by itself. The concept was really good but needs a lot more pages to be told.

It Takes Two to Tango by Cris Anson (BDSM Advanced)

OH MAN! This one is good! For a short story, this had a lot going on and I loved the action. I kept shouting at my kindle trying to get Cheryl to run! This guy is probably a psycho and I never did find out if James cut her or not. Now with that being said, Cheryl does want everything that James is offering. Also, I have to mention that Cheryl’s character was very well written. I could practically feel her submission coming off the pages. Great story and great writing!

Scene and Be Seen by Gray Dixon (BDSM Advanced)

First… there is no sex in this short story. It is very sexual, but with no slot A into slot B. Second, the amount of times Madyson Sloane refers to the night she made a drunken bet is ridiculously annoying. In fact, it’s so annoying that it pulled me out of the story and I ended up not liking it.

“one of those outrageously drunken bets”
“The Wager, wrong on so many levels, made more sense inebriated”
“I barely remember making the bet”
“Or, it could’ve been my view from my inebriated state.”
“The hazy moments leading up to the stupid bet started with”
“over one too many cocktails and too little food in my stomach.”
“mostly a blur, but”
“in my fuzzy state, any man with a nice smile and a big dick would’ve looked”
“Did I already say that this is the consequence of having one too many Sex on the Beach cocktails, which influenced the negotiating?”
“Those Sex on the Beach cocktails did a real number on my memory”
“made the wager when I was, shall we say, not in my full faculties, and shouldn’t be held to what I said.”

I’m pretty sure I missed a few, but you get the point. I think I could have really gotten more into the story if there wasn’t a constant reference to being drunk.

Blind Trust by Becca Jameson (BDSM Advanced)

For a short story there is a lot going on and its really good. I wish the story would go on. This is a really hot and sexy MFM ménage. I would have been scared out of my mind… but I think that is the point for Victoria to get what she needs.

“I can smell your fear. It’s making my cock so fucking hard. I can’t wait to bury my dick inside you.”

The Pleasure Is All Mine by Rhiannon Ayers (BDSM Advanced)

Damn! That is how you set a scene! This is a great story about a Domme playing a game and teaching a lesson to her submissive. The author did a wonderful job about telling a story in such a short time. The writing style is well crafted and you can really see everything that is going on in your head. Or at least I did. BRAVO!

Rush by Alaska Angelini (BDSM Dark Erotica)

Saved the best for last and then cut me off! I wanted this one to go on forever. I really hope this is a full length book or there is plans to have one because I would buy this in a heartbeat. I love this story because it calls to my darker side. This author has a new fan and I just added all her books to by TBR.

“I needed the rush. I needed… to be taken and hurt.”

“I feel your tension. Your instincts are screaming for you to fight. As you should. Do it, pet. Try with everything you have. But don’t you dare make a fucking sound.”

“How long had I waited and searched for the right man? One who could dominate me with more than just words? A sadist. That’s what I needed, and one with a darkness to match my own.”

“Perhaps I hadn’t just opened Pandora’s box within myself. I’d awakened his demons too, and soon I’d find out if that was a good thing or not.”

description

My overall feels on the entire book is really great and I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys BDSM on many different levels. This is a great read and I’m really excited to meet most of these authors at the BDSM Writers Convention in Everett Washington and then again in NYC.

Between The Bed Posts Featured Interview: Dr. Charley Ferrer

Between The Bed Posts Interview

Welcome Dr. Charley and thank you for taking the time to spend with me, our fellow readers, reviewers and fans here at Naughty Book Snitch. I’ve recently had the pleasure of attending the BDSM Writers Con in New York this past August and now I am obsessed with you, the conference and the attending authors.

You are a very busy and successful woman. Can you tell us more about what you do for a living and how you came to be where you are at today?

Hi Mindy. I’m thrilled to have met you this past August at BDSM Writers Con. I’m especially pleased that you enjoyed the conference. We put a lot off work into making it special for our writers and readers not only through the exceptional workshops we provide but the safe and inviting community we’ve built to allow participants to feel comfortable when exploring such a controversial topic.

I’m a Clinical Sexologist & Sex Therapist. I have been advocating for sexual health, sex education, and sexual rights for the past twenty years. My advocacy work consists of conducting lectures throughout the US, Latin America and Asia on sexual health, self-empowerment, and of course Dominance and submission.

My therapeutic practice and Mentorship Programs consists of helping men and women overcome any difficulties they’re experiencing in their relationships or themselves and helping them fully connect with their core essence to ensure they live a fuller more rewarding life. Because not everyone lives in New York City, I offer telephone and Skype consultations.

On top of that, I’m the host and founder of BDSM Writers Con which I started in 2012. It started as a 3-Day BDSM Workshop with a handful of authors and readers and in the past five years has skyrocketed into a 4-Day conference with over 150 participants. For 2016, BDSM Writers Con will host it’s first annual west coast conference in Everett Washington, just outside of Seattle.

Why do I do what I do? Because I believe men and women have a right to embrace their full sensual and sexual identities and core essence.

You have several books out including the award winning BDSM The Naked Truth. Are you currently writing anything new? If so, can you tell us a little about your W.I.P?

Actually I’m working on two new books at the moment. One is a playful activities book for the wild child within all of us called, Naughty Games & Activities. This book is full of playful activities like word searches, mazes, crossword pulls and more; all with a very naughty adult subtext to them. I figure, why should kids have all the fun? There’s also pages for you to share a sensually wicked tale or draw a sexy activity which would have sent you to the principal’s office in your younger days.

My second book is called, An Owner’s Manual which guides you on an internal quest of self-discovery. Yes, I purposely say “quest” as opposed to journey. Anyone can go on a journey, but a quest…now that’s getting to the heart and soul of it all; besides there’s always dragons to battle on quests and we all have a few. An Owner’s Manual will help you address your life, your relationships (whether D/s or vanilla) and help you decide consciously for yourself how you wish to experience your life and what you share with others. An Owner’s Manual requires your courage and your determination –hence the quest.

How did you first discover BDSM and when did you decide to write about it?

This is a hard questions to answer since it requires me to try and separate who I am from when I actually discovered there were “others like me” and by the grace of the Universe there was actually a whole community—a world—out there.

I was kinky before kinky was popular. I recall sitting in my bedroom for hours when I was a teenager starting at the life-size murals I’d drawn on my walls. Murals that depicted BDSM scenes that I didn’t yet understand what they were; like one of a man being whipped by two girls in short shorts; or the one with the nude male while the woman wore a beautiful blue gown. Back then, over 30-years ago, such behavior or thoughts were not acceptable—hell, even today, they’re still not very popular in certain circles. (Wait…did I just age myself? chuckles)

I remember what it was like sitting on my bed thinking I was weird and wishing I could be “normal” like everyone else. Wishing there was someone to talk to that would help me make sense of it all. That’s one of the reasons why I became a Sexologist and sex educator specializing in BDSM; because there aren’t many therapists or educators who will discuss sexuality and desires without judging you or putting their moralistic prejudice twists to it.

As for writing about Dominance and submission, I started writing about it back in 2002, providing little snippets of it my books such as Sex Unlimited and The W.I.S.E. Journal for the Sensual Woman. It wasn’t until 2011 that I actually wrote BDSM The Naked Truth and BDSM for Writers. and came out of the leather closet myself. This year, I published Domme Says which is full of playful quotes a Dominant woman would say incorporated into a journal book – because we all need a place to write our thoughts. And under BDSM Writers Con corporation, we published our second annual BDSM Writers Con Anthology 2015 which holds nine wonderful BDSM stories by this year’s featured authors. Note Amazon censored our anthology and deemed it “adult content” making it almost impossible to find on their website unless you know to look under adult filters or “all departments”. Therefore, we made it simple to find on our website and even threw in a discount.

I attended BDSM Writers Con in New York this past August. For me personally, it was the best conference I have attended so far. Can you tell us about the BDSM Writers Con and how it came to be? Is this a conference for writers as well as readers?

I’m so pleased to hear you enjoyed BDSM Writers Con. That it’s the best conference experience you’ve had…smiles…I’m thrilled to hear. Our goal is to provide a playful safe atmosphere where participants can learn and discover for themselves the various aspects of the Dominance and submission lifestyle through the lectures and live demonstrations we offer conducted by BDSM experts. Alongside our BDSM workshops, we provide educational and marketing opportunities for authors to enhance their skills on how to better write their BDSM novels and sell them.

Don’t let our name fool you, BDSM Writers Con is for both writers and readers of Dominance and submission. Our name merely lets you know what you’ll get—lots of BDSM writers and content.

Like any other book conference, BDSM Writers Con is a place where readers can mingle with their favorite –or soon to be favorite—authors. However, that’s where our similarities end because we take you further—much much further!

We bring in BDSM Experts with years of experience to share their thoughts and lifestyle with you. Our live demonstrations allow you to explore first hand some of common BDSM practices and our SM Exploratorium allows you to embrace your dominant or submissive side—or both—as you try various activities such as flogging, bondage, or sensory dep (a fancy name for using blindfolds.) Plus, we take you to an actual BDSM Club or create a Dungeon for you (as we’re doing in Everett), where you can actually experience the lifestyle first hand among those that actually live it. Whether you relish in being a voyeur or want to try a real-life experience of your own, is up to you. We won’t tell. smiles.

Many of our participants, both authors and readers, have returned year-after-year as each BDSM Writers Con provides its own marvelous experience. Some of our participants have been with us for five years; when we were just a 3-Day Intensive Workshop.

BWC will have its first West Coast conference in Everett Washington in March 31 – April 3, 2016. What will the Everett conference offer that the New York one might not? For people who may be attending both conferences in 2016 or may have been to one the previous year, what new things can we look forward to?

I’m so excited about our first West Coast conference. Every BDSM Writers Con is different and has its own personality making every workshops, live demo, and Mix & Mingles we host unique. The major difference between New York City and Everett will be that we’re hosting our very own BDSM Ball & Dungeon Party. We’ve joined forces with the local D/s community and are bringing the Dungeon to our participants at our host hotel. And New York City hosts a Publishers’ Panel and editor agent appointments.

For Everett, we’re hosting two additional Mix & Mingles which are being provided by our sponsors. The first is our “Unofficial Kick-Off Party” for those participants arriving early which is on March 30 and is sponsored by Blue Water Organic Distilling. Blue Water is even creating a special signature drink for us using their very own organic vodka and other ingredients. They’re calling it: Spank Me!

BarMyx Everett’s Alternative Bar is also hosting a Mix & Mingle for us on April 1st and their bartenders—all men—will be serving us wearing creations by Cut-2-Me-Designs another of our sponsors. Talk about erotic wear for men.

Best of all, our Sunday Book Fair will include more than just books; it’ll have a little art work by our sponsor Seattle Erotic Art Festival and sample tasters by Blue Water Organic Distilling and more.

There’s so much more we can do in Everett because the costs of putting on the conference is much less. Best of all, our host hotel is providing us with rooms for only $79 – $99 a night. Did I mention our keynote speaker is erotic author Tiffany Reisz?

No two BDSM Writers Cons are ever alike whether we’re in Everett or New York City. You won’t want to miss either one. And now we’re making it easier for you to do so with special holiday discounts and of course our many giveaways. Why not attend them both and tell us which you like best?

Do you have a favorite book that you like to read over and over? Tell us about what books/authors you enjoy reading. I love a good book recommendation.

Laughs…you think I have time to read? Well, okay I will admit I do use reading as an escape. My favorite book is Rough Canvas by Joey W. Hill. This story has it all for me; a man (Thomas) struggling with family values, being accepted, and supporting those he loves, while he silently yearns for the love he doesn’t think is possible. And his lover (Marcus), who’s fighting to show Thomas that their love can survive if Thomas would simply reach for it—fight to keep it. All of this within the context of a D/s relationship that’s so erotic it melts my eReader every time. There are so many nuances to this book that each time I read it, I discover something new. I’ve read it at least seven times in the past two years. It’s my go-to book when I want to relax and turn off the world.

Because of the Golden Flogger Award, I’ve had the opportunity to discover many new authors which I’ve added to my must read list like: Alaska Angelini who’s hard hitting BDSM dark erotica books make my heart race with anticipation; Jillian Verne & Cris Anson who are sizzling hot in their descriptions; and new authors just starting their writing careers like Rose C. Carole, Corrine A. Silver and Arlee Scott. Each year, I discover a few more authors through BDSM Writers Con and the workshops I conduct.

I just have a few more quick and fun little questions for you.

Favorite movie and/or TV show?
The Terminator & The English Patient. I just love the fact that he goes back for her regardless of the risk to himself (The Terminator) or the fact that he knows she’ll have died (The English Patient). I’m a major romantic at heart.

Favorite song?
Hear Me Now by Hollywood Undead

Do you have pets (animal or human)?
Grins…I will only admit that I practice what I teach.

eReader or Paperback?
I love the convenience of an eReader especially that you can increase the font size. However, when I’m reading anything that’s non-fiction or editing manuscripts for those authors I Mentor, it’s paperbacks all the way.

Currently reading?
All the recent Golden Flogger Award nominees.

Thank you Dr. Charley for taking the time to meet with me today and getting Snitched Between The Bed Posts. It was an honor to have this one-on-one time with you and I am looking forward to seeing you again at the BDSM Writers Con in Everett Washington March 31 – April 3, 2016 and in New York August 18 – 21, 2016.

Mindy’s Adventure to the 2015 BDSM Writers Con in NYC

First, let me begin by saying thank you to Naughty Delight who made this trip possible for me in the first place. Not only did I win admission into the BDSM Writers Con, I also get email alerts about all their glorious promotions they have on kinky, sexy and naughty items. I highly recommend signing up for their newsletter AND they do not spam you. If you want to sign up, you can click here.

Anyway. Naughty Delight gave me the opportunity to go to this one of a kind, extraordinary BDSM Writers Convention. While I was there, I had so much fun, learned a lot, got to play a lot and I met some new friends. I really don’t think there is a word that could accurately describe my gratitude. Just… thank you. 🙂

Okay… I’ll start from the beginning and hope that I don’t bore you too much. I first heard about the BDSM Writers Con from an author friend of mine. So, like any normal person, I stalked the hell out of the website learning as much about it as I could.

I signed up for Dr. Charley’s newsletter and even signed up for the affiliate program to see if I could earn enough money to go. But I had to ask myself some questions first.

Is this something that I would be interested in? Yes
Is this something that I would pay money for? Yes
Is New York too far away and too expensive? Umm, maybe but I’m sure I could work it out.
Who can I get to go with me? Oh… I have a list of friends that will no DOUBT go with me.

My only problem is that I couldn’t afford it this year and with this short of notice, plus I had just gotten back from the RT Booklovers Convention in Dallas Texas in May. My husband and I tried to work it out but we just couldn’t swing the cost. Then, as I’m reading one of Dr. Charley’s newsletters, she is talking about Naughty Delight doing a giveaway for one admission into the 2015 BDSM Writers Con and to enter all you need to do is sign up for Naughty Delight’s newsletter. My first thought was I’d never win something like this, but it won’t hurt to try. At the very least I’ll get some kick ass emails about some awesome product from Naughty Delight. So, I entered and guess what…. about a week and a half later I got this email from Naughty Delight…

Mindy,

We have great news, you’ve been selected as the recipient of our BDSM Writers Con Giveaway. I’ve CC the event’s organizer, Dr. Charley Ferrer who will get you all squared away.

After reading that first sentence… I stood up from my computer, looked around my office (at home) to see if there was a witness to what I just read. I was alone.. just me and my Chihuahua, Chico Chocolate Thunder. Then I said, in a shocked and stunned tone “hoooooly shiiiiit. No fucking way! OH MY GOD!! I must not be reading this right.” So I reread the email about three times before I finally squealed with excitement, ran out of the office to find my husband so I can share the awesome news.

Next, all I needed to do was book the flight and hotel then find some friends to go with me. The flights were surprisingly cheap for round trip. BONUS for me 🙂 And I found two friends to go with me and split the cost of the hotel.

With all that done… now all I had to do was wait.

Finally the day came! My friends and I were so excited we could hardly contain ourselves. We are more excited than should be socially acceptable in public.

We arrived at LaGuardia around 1pm, picked up our luggage then hailed our very first taxi. I was in the back seat taking a ton of pictures like a typical tourist. But I didn’t care, I was in Manhattan New York! We had the BEST cab driver and I wish I could remember his name. He was very nice, informative, funny and cussed a little (which I love). However the driving scared me a lot and I tried to not pay too close attention to that. To me it seemed that lines on the road were only there for decoration because nobody seemed to follow them. There was hardly any distance between the front of one bumper and the back of another. Cutting people off in traffic is just what happens there and horns are going off everywhere but nobody seems to hear them. But for me… that was the New York experience. I trusted every single driver I had and never once had a bad taxi experience.

Every New Yorker I met was very nice. Yes, it seems like everyone is in a hurry and when walking around if you get bumped, most people just move on. Not a big deal to me. Anytime my friends and I had questions about anything, everybody we met stopped to talk to us. We met a ton of great locals and I think my favorites were Matej and Sambia (spelling) at one of the grocery stores we visited. Very nice and funny.

So after checking in at the Doubletree hotel, we decide to do a little bit of sightseeing before we go to the Writers Con meet and greet later that night. We didn’t do much but we did go to Central Park, looked at the Zoo (it was closed), walked around the streets and took some great pictures. I don’t think any of us have sweat that much in a very long time.

I contacted one of my author friends who lives there, Jessica Satin, to let her know I was there and set up a time to meet later that week.

So, now on to the fun stuff. The BDSM Writers Con meet and greet at Jackson Hole Wednesday night. We were so hungry, so we mostly focused on the food. We got to sit next to Sir Victor from Quality Whips by Victor Tella. He told us some very interesting stories, introduced us to some new music and even recited his own song lyrics. After we ate Dr. Charley had everyone go around the room and introduce themselves; authors, readers/bloggers, editors or whatever you wanted to say about yourself in 60 seconds or less, just like a munch. My inner introvert started to freak the fuck out. But all was good and I thank my friends for making me comfortable. Once we were all done, most of us walked back to the hotel. It was the best walk ever. We all talked and got to know each other better and quickly became friends. I won’t name anyone specifically out of respect for their privacy. But everyone I met there were some of the most kick ass, funny, interesting and amazing people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

We wake up bright and early and stop at Ess-a-Bagel for the most mouthwatering bagels I have ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth. Talk about a fucking mouthgasm! Seriously the best Bagels I’ve ever had.

After that we run up to get our registration all squared away, purchase some raffle tickets to win some super awesome prizes and took a stroll down, what I call vendor alley. A-FUCKING-MAZING stuff people!! I wanted to buy everything I touched and everything I didn’t get the chance to touch.

First the keynote speaker, Cecilia Tan, gave a fantastic speech about what it means to her to write about this genre and her thoughts on living the lifestyle. She did such a fantastic job and I wish that I had taken notes because she made a lot of interesting points. She did record the speech and I think it will be on her website later. If so, I’ll post a link when I can.

The first workshop that I attended was presented by Dr. Charley Ferrer herself. The workshop was a very broad overview of BDSM in general. This could actually be a year long course 5 days a week, 8 hours a day and still wouldn’t cover everything there is to know about the lifestyle. I think it’s an ongoing journey and nobody will ever know everything about it. We learned that different color collars can mean different things. Lock or no lock, leash in pocket or hanging out and so on. I also met a new friend in this workshop. I’ll call her M&M. We were asked to partner up, one of us was assigned Dominant and the other submissive. Well, M&M and I first met with me on my knees, hands behind my head and arms pushed pack. Then we switched. LOL! Since that moment, we were almost inseparable for the remainder of the convention.

Anyway Dr. Charley’s workshop was VERY good, informative and fascinating. Bravo!

The next workshop I went to was about proper etiquette for club and scene play. This was very interesting to me because I’ve never been to this type of club or play party and we are all invited to attend one on Saturday night. The presenter was really great. She was personable and I loved it when she would make us all laugh. It really made me feel at ease. She was great at answering all our questions for us newbies. I will pass on some of her tips for club play.

Next, was a workshop with Sir Guy about Discovering Dominance. Ohhhh! When he speaks… made me almost slide outta my seat! Talk about getting wet at the sound of a voice and just being his presence. Then when he said “uniform play” I about melted into a puddle of goo. That is such a turn on.

He talked about his experience and his journey into the lifestyle. He made us laugh and he made us think and most of all, he made us feel human. We will make mistakes and its okay. Learn from them, dust yourself off and move on. He is a wonderful presenter and if you EVER get the chance to sit in on one of his workshops, I would highly recommend it.

And the golden flogger awards were actual miniature golden floggers made by DeTails Toys. They were so kick ass looking! I’ll tell you more about DeTails Toys later. *giggles*

After all this, Dr. Charley announced some of the winners for the raffles and guess what! My two Kansas City friends that I came with each won a prize. Yippee!

There was a celebration cocktail party after the awards ceremony, but I was sooo pooped. I think my friends and I took a power nap then went out and had pizza and wine at Angelo’s Pizza and came back to the room and passed the fuck out. Exhausting day!

New day, up bright and early. Went to a really useful workshop presented by NCSF about BDSM and the law. Then sat in on a workshop presented by Exquisite Reviews. Jenny and Karla are fantastic and super sweet. They did a fantastic job and I would recommend all authors sit in on their workshop. They give a lot of good information about what the general population of readers look for.

After that I HAD to go for coffee. Apparently there was a Starbucks cattycorner from our hotel. There is so much to see in New York that I had completely missed this. Anyway, M&M and I had some coffee and good conversation and went back to the convention.

I came in on the tail end of Warrior Princess Submissive workshop presented by Mike Makai, that I really wish I could have listened to the entire thing. Made me shed a tear. Anyway, Mike Makai has a really interesting test on his website called “Are You a Warrior Princess Submissive?” I took the test and was very surprised how accurate my results were. Here are my results.

After lunch it was time for some Kinky Twisted Tantra presented by Barbara Carrellas. Guess who my partner was… M&M! This workshop talked about the importance of breathing and focusing. Putting attention on your intention. It really is amazing what you can do with those two things.

The next work shop was Creating Sensual Scenes with kickass submissive (perfect for both authors and readers) and was presented by Dr. Charley and Cris Anson. This workshop was one of my favorites and I really wish it could have been longer. Dr. Charley needed a volunteer and was looking directly at me… so naturally I submitted to Dr. Charley’s will and consented to let her do whatever she wanted to me. (Side note, both of my Kansas City friends that I came with decided to go to the 911 museum and were not with me at this time.) So Dr. Charley began to take off my convention badge and explained to everyone that just the simplest of things can be used to create a sensual scene at any time. She took my lanyard and showed everyone the proper way to bind wrists. After Dr. Charley checked with me to make sure it was ok, she lifted my shirt a little, tucked it in the front collar and pulled it through. Just like you did when you were a kid and made it look like a t-shirt bra. She then demonstrated with another lanyard how you could use those as nipple clamps and other various ways of attaching those to the body. I wasn’t showing any naughty bits and I picked up some new skills that I can take home and show my husband. After the demo was over, Cris Anson gave me one of her books for being such a good volunteer. She gave me “Dance of the Seven Veils” then autographed it for me!! Cris Anson had some really good hand outs about sensual words… words with texture and I would have LOVED to hear more about this but we ran out of time.

The next workshop was another really good one about dealing with conflict in a power exchange relationship. This was a class that anyone who is in a relationship should attend. Doesn’t matter if you are in a M/s, D/s or vanilla relationship, it was all really good information. Communication, compromise and toss your ego out of the room. I highly recommend this workshop to everyone and if you ever get the opportunity to attend, I promise, you will get a lot out of this and be able to apply it to your daily life immediately.

After that I went to meet one of my favorite authors for dinner 🙂 Jessica Satin. I was equal parts excited and nervous to meet her. I had nothing to be nervous about. I had so much fun! We had dinner at the Taproom #307 and we both had the baked mac & cheese which was delicious.

When I got back to the hotel, I found out that while I was gone, I had won two of the raffle prizes!! I won a 5 piece shackle set from Dungeon Delights I wanted that so FUCKING bad and I can’t believe I won it!! So I would like to say thank you to Dungeon Delights for donating that so I could win it! I also won a basket from Silk Jones (I think) It included a Sex & Mischief grey satin mask, furry handcuffs, Silk Jones The Interview: Law Firm Erotica Book 1, a 20% off coupon for The Admin: Law Firm Erotica Book 2 and Just Dreams by L. J. Taylor. A huge thank you for the basket as well. I think it’s obvious I LOVE to read so I am very excited about the books and can’t wait to read them.

Kansas City was really standing out and winning a lot of the raffles. LOL! Sorry y’all 😀

For me this was the day of main events. The day that I have been waiting months for is finally here. My KC friends and I are vibrating with excitement!

After getting some coffee from Starbucks, we head back to the hotel and go to our first workshop of the day. There are two workshops going on at the same time and it was VERY difficult to choose between them. Erotica Whip Play with Victor Tella.

The other workshop and the one I decided to go to was SM Exploratorium with Bo Blaze and family from DeTails Toys and Action Bastard (aka Mike) from Bastard Ropes! By far… my most favorite workshop of the entire con that I attended. Let me try to explain. Bo Blaze starts off introducing him, his family and DeTails Toys. He goes through some of the different types of floggers, what type of leather they are made of and what kind of feeling we might expect with the different types of floggers.

Now this is where the fun begins. Demonstration and experimenting time! My KC friends stopped at the Bastard Ropes first and M&M and I stop at the flogger station with Bo Blaze first. M&M was the first to volunteer to be flogged. While I’m waiting my turn, I decide to see what’s going on at the rope station. So, I volunteer to get tied up and Action Bastard does a simple tie on my wrist that is quick and easy to do at home. He is sweet enough to let me get my picture taken with him. (I’ll post my pic as soon as my friends send it to me)

After that I go back to the flogger station and wait a little bit. Bo Blaze is explaining the differences between thud and sting. I was watching the girls getting flogged but then I started to watch Bo. He is completely memorizing. He is so attentive to what he is doing and pays very close attention to the body language of the person he is flogging. He is watching where he is putting the flogger as well at watching the girls face. Making sure she is comfortable and enjoying herself and not in any distress. The attention he gave to the tiniest little details is a huge turn on. The soft hand caress on the back and the little “doing good?” questions/checking in and then back to the flogging…. ahhh… had me quivering with anticipation. I couldn’t wait for my turn. I wanted the thud but I really wanted to feel the sting.

Finally, he pointed at me and it was my turn. I assumed the position and stuck my ass and back out to let him know that I was ready.

I wanted to feel it, I wanted the thud and I wanted the sting. Since he doesn’t know me or my tolerance, he started out light. Which was perfectly fine with me because I didn’t know what I liked either. He asked me what I was feeling and if I wanted something else. When I consented to something more, he changed up the flogger (I wish I could remember which ones he used) and gave me a good mix of thud and sting. I loved it. When the flogger made contact with me, I felt the thud ripple all the way through my body. I felt it in my teeth and I felt the little bite on my back. But I wanted more. More sting. So when he asked me if I liked it and wanted to try something else, I asked for something that I had my eye on the entire time I was there. I told him I wanted more sting. He picked up the blue and black Elephant Braid Flogger that he said was all sting. He tested me out a little and made sure I was doing ok. It was like a quick hard bite on my backside. I was definitely giving him feedback with some of my comments like, wow (a good wow), I like it, and moaning a little. He did my back and my ass and my ass was my favorite. I wanted it harder and somehow without even saying it, Bo Blaze obliged. He was reading me, listening to my body and watching how I responded. He came up next to my head to make sure I was doing ok, put his hand on my back and gave me a gentle rub. I felt like we were the only two people in the room at that moment but I knew in the back of my mind that I had an audience. He said something to everyone watching. I think it was something about loving this type of reaction and wanting to grab my hair. I said yes, you can grab my hair and he did exactly what I wanted at that moment. I got a few more sharp whacks and I really didn’t want it to end. I fucking LOVED it. When it was over, I gave Bo Blaze a hug and thanked him.

For me this was an enlightening moment about myself, I had just discovered something that I had no idea I enjoyed. I mean, I’ve always wanted to try it, but I had no idea if I would like it or not. I couldn’t wait to get home and show my husband what I learned so I could do this to him and especially for him to do this to me. I’ll be honest… I have a little crush on Bo Blaze right now. 😉

A little side note about me getting flogged, for the next couple of days I noticed that while I was sitting, if I moved slightly where my jeans would rub my ass just a bit, there was a very mild sting. In my mind’s eye it brought me back to the moment and it was like I could feel it all over again. I craved to feel it all over again. It was a subtle reminder of what I had gotten and I could smile to myself and have my little private moment. When I got home, I told my husband all about it and when he got all my clothes off, he told me that I had bruises on my ass. I had no idea that I also got a little souvenir that I could take with me. It was a very nice surprise. My husband took a picture and put it in his spank bank. Sorry, y’all.. I’m not sharing that picture.

Okay, moving on. Next workshop was Sensual Steel presented by Nauttiboy. I’m not afraid of knives but I would prefer to not get cut or scratched. The dangerous aspect of the knives is enticing for sure. He showed us techniques on how to remove clothing safely and when working on the skin to never cross the lines. Knife play and blood play are two completely different things. It was obvious that the way Nauttiboy doted on and talked about each knife in his collection, that they are definitely his babies. I loved the music he would play while he was doing his demos. Absolutely fascinating to watch but I’m not sure I could actually volunteer for that.

Next up was another one where two workshops were being done at the same time where I really wish we didn’t have to choose one over the other. It was Violet Wand OR Rope Bondage. I chose the Violet Wand workshop. I’ve heard of the violet wand, I know what it looks like and I know what it does. I’ve never used one and I have no idea what it feels like and that is exactly why I wanted to sit in on this workshop. Wow! This was just amazing. What a wonderful presenter and educator. He has cases and cases of glass and knows how to wield his instruments of pleasure. He asked for a volunteer and my lucky friend M&M got to get up on the table for a demonstration. The bra needs to come off due to the metal clasps. He asks a lot of questions about medical conditions, pace makers even asthmatic due to the ozone that is produced. I don’t even know where to begin with this workshop because what you can do with the Violet Wand is almost limitless. Sensual sensory play with electricity. It sort of looked like a plasma ball but more concentrated and in the different types and shapes of glass. There were a couple of volunteers and one was a couple. They were really good, funny and were shocking each other. She would be on the conductor pad and he would be shocking her with his fingers. I think that would definitely be my favorite style of play.

After all that it was time for dinner and to get ready to go out for the BDSM Club Night. I’ve never been to a Dungeon so I was pretty fucking excited and VERY nervous to go. I went through vendor alley a few times, tried on a corset that I loved but did nothing for my boobs and I don’t own any fetish attire. So, I decided to wear a long black skirt and a grey shirt with some black and silver strappy sandals.

My KC friends looked absolutely fucking gorgeous!! They were so beautiful. I really wish everyone reading this could have seen them.

Anyway, everyone met in the lobby first before departing for our adventure to the club. Everyone was dressed perfectly. Corsets, sheer skirts, collars, kilts and so on. Everyone looked amazing and were definitely dressed to impress.

Once there, it was WAY smaller than I expected and really crowded. People were packed in there, shoulder to shoulder. But no problem at all, I was moving around, checking some things out and then all the sudden I kicked something. That’s when I met Mr. Carpet. Shocked the shit out of me. But that’s fine, he likes it so I moved on.

Then Dr. Charley showed up and made all of us feel comfortable even though some of us were out of our element. Im not sure what it is, but she really does have a calming effect to her. I walked around some more and saw some pretty interesting things.

There was a fire massage station, Saint Andrew’s Cross, a couple of very large beds, some couches, a bondage station, and a spanking station. There was A LOT of things going on at the same time and I was trying to stay out of the way and not interrupt anyone’s scene. There was a girl getting flogged on the Saint Andrew’s Cross and I was trying to give them room to move.

I wanted to try a couple of things, but it was just too crowded, hot and turned out to be not as fun as I thought it would be. So, I found my friends and told them I was ready to go back to the hotel but they could stay if they wanted. I was a little disappointed about the entire thing. It would have been nice if they had reserved the entire place just for us. But, in reality, I know that you cant do that. Fuck it…. lets go back to the hotel and drink 😉

When we got back, I was surprised to see how many others were also there. Just about everyone had the same experience I did and felt the same way. Because it was so crowded Dr. Charley invited everyone from the Con to her hotel room to play.

By that time I was already exhausted and our plane was taking off at 6am the next morning. Which means we needed to be up by 330am, check out by 4am and be at the airport by 430ish. My friends and I ended up with a couple of hours of sleep and I think I got more sleep than they did. I passed out while they went for a smoke.

After all that, we had to click our heals together three times and head back to Kansas City. We got on a plane with all our sweet swag from authors and vendors and our prizes that we won from the raffles. I’m really sad that we couldn’t stay for the book fair and closing ceremony.

Now for the not so enjoyable stuff. Not everything can be rainbows and glitter handcuffs. There were a few hiccups. One of the problems I had throughout this process was booking my room at the Doubletree and almost everything about the Doubletree in general. The special convention pricing didn’t start until the Thursday, I get that. I had to make a separate reservation for Wednesday and was charged $360.00 for that one night. Then on that Thursday morning (in the middle of the convention) my friends and I had to go back down to the check in desk, turn in our room keys and go through the check out process pay for our one night and then recheck in and get all new keys. WTF? Why? I really don’t get that. Also when we checked in on the first day, the person helping us told us that there was a complimentary continental breakfast and gave us the time for it. Guess what… there was no complimentary continental breakfast. You had to have vouchers for that. And guess what else, there was no wifi in the room. If you wanted wifi in your room you had to pay an extra $14.95 every 24 hours to use it. The only wifi they had for free was in the lobby. Also, when I booked the room, I told them there would be 3 of us staying there. So… we only got 2 bath towels. Do you know how difficult it is to dry off with a hand towel after a shower? The air conditioning hardly worked and it was extremely hot in our room. But they did bring us a box fan. There was greasy spots on the windows from the people before us trying to look out the window. We had to call the front desk to ask them to bring us more toilet paper because we ran out. Our bathtub didn’t drain and the shower water would get to be about 12 to 14 inches high. Plus when the water finally did drain, it made the bottom of the tub all slippery and I almost fell a couple of times. There was supposed to be a mini fridge in our room too but there wasn’t. We asked about it and the front desk sent one right up. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows sucked. It was seemed like there was problem after problem after problem.

All the Doubletree hotel staff were difficult to work with and didn’t seem very friendly. The only exceptions were the maintenance man who brought us our box fan and the lady that checked us out on our last day there. That’s it. I heard a bunch of other horror stories that were similar to ours, however everyone we talked to was shocked that we got charged $360 for our fist night and was made to check out and check back in. I was not impressed by the Doubletree.

Overall, I had the BEST time at the Writers Convention. At first it’s a little intimidating because I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t know anyone. I was curious and wasn’t sure what to expect. Dr. Charley is very personable and makes you feel like you’ve known each other for years. Once I got introduced and started talking to people, I felt at ease. All the workshops were very informative for authors, readers and anyone interested in learning more about BDSM and living the lifestyle. The workshops were informative and very hands on. I made a lot of new friends and networked a little. I discovered some new things about myself and got to bring home some of that knowledge to share with my husband. Flogger being number one that I couldn’t wait to try out.

So, if you’re thinking about going to the next BDSM Writers Con… do it! It is so much fun, educational and I promise, you’ll meet many new people who will turn into lifelong friends.

My tips for first timers:

My husband has already agreed to let me go to the next BDSM Writers Con in Everett Washington starting March 31st – April 3rd 2016! He is also considering going with me. If you have your heart set on going to New York, don’t worry, there will still be a con in NY August 18th – 21st 2016.

Thanks again to Naughty Delight for making this trip possible for me.

Notes:
If I left a presenters name off the name of a workshop, then I did that deliberately because I didn’t have permission to use it OR that person does not have a public website that I could connect them to.

Please also note that we do not claim ownership of any gifs used in this post. Some of the pictures are mine and I took them myself. I will site an image if I know where it came from.
