Live hard, f*ck harder and follow only their own rules. Those are the cornerstones the six men of the Haven Brotherhood live and bleed by, refusing to conform to society’s expectations, taking what they want and always watching each other’s backs.

A self-made man with his fingers in a variety of successful businesses, Jace Kennedy lives for the challenge and he always gets what he wants. From the start, he sees Vivienne Moore’s hidden wild side and knows she’s his perfect match, if only he can break it free. He will have her. One way or another.

Vivienne’s determined to ditch the rough lifestyle she grew up in, even if that means hiding her true self behind a bland socialite veneer. Dragging her party-hound sister out of a club was not how she wanted to ring in the New Year, but Viv knows the drill. Get in, get her sister and get back to the safe, stable life she’s built for herself as fast as humanly possible. But Viv’s plans are derailed when she finds herself crashing into the club’s clearly badass and dangerously sexy owner.

Jace is everything Vivienne swore she never wanted, but the more time she spends with him, the more she starts to see that he loves just as fiercely as he fights. He can walk society’s walk and talk society’s talk, but when he wants something, he finds a way to get it. He’s proud of who he is and where he came from, and he’ll be damned if he lets Vivienne go before showing her the safest place of all is in the arms of a dangerous man.

Review

This was my first book by this author. I liked a lot about it and had an issue with part of it also.

What I liked:

Characters primary and secondary both.

Brotherhood-camaraderie

Suspense-enough to keep it interesting

Sex scenes- nice and graphic

What I didn’t like:

It seems the author couldn’t decide if this was a group of ex-military buddies or an MC

This wasn’t an MC like I thought

It was a good book that I enjoyed and may go on to read the rest of the series as it releases.

When Roxy Doucette meets the all too handsome, Knox Harrington, sparks fly. He’s the new assistant to the club’s attorney. However, Christopher “Outlaw” Caldwell, the club’s president, is suspicious of Knox’s true reasons for being there. Something about Knox just rubs Outlaw the wrong way, therefore, he asks Roxy to get Knox into bed for some “pillow talk”. At first, she’s outraged at Outlaw’s proposal, but accepts that he might be right and the club could be in jeopardy. She agrees to “date” Knox and the war of wills begin.
Born in wealth and privilege, Knox Harrington is a former police officer who has little regard for biker clubs. In particular, the Death Dwellers, and ESPECIALLY the president. Now a private investigator, Knox is working on behalf of his uncle to bring Outlaw and the Dwellers down. The club members’ nefarious deeds warrant their destruction. Knox intends to achieve that by any means possible.
When he meets the beautiful, formidable Roxy, there’s instant attraction between them. However, he sees an opportunity to use her to ferret information about the club. He’s over-the-top-arrogant, believing the ignorance and stupidity of Outlaw will ultimately be the club’s downfall. Knox hasn’t a clue that Roxy is on to him. She’s also attracted to him.
Aside from the safety of the club, Roxy’s in it for the benefits. She has a new lease on life after surviving cancer. Besides Knox’s low-down behavior, she’s a 44-year-old, mother of four children and Knox is ten years younger than she is. However, she can’t resist the challenge when Knox lets it be known that he’s the sharpest tool in the shed. He sure the hell is a tool. The foolish kind and Roxy is determined to teach him a lesson or two.
Let the games begin.

Review

I enjoyed this novel like I always enjoy a Kathryn Kelly penned novel. All the characters that I love or love to hate were present and accounted for. I’ve loved Roxy since she steamrolled into the series. She seemed to bring balance to the club and the clubhouse. The men respected her and the women needed her. None more so than Kendall, whose need for a mother/friend never fails to be heart wrenching to read about.

My only complaint is that I never liked Knox or felt any connection between he and Roxy. It never felt natural and it never rang true. I was glad Roxy got an HEA, I just didn’t care for who he was. Other than that, I loved it. It had suspense, humor and hot sex. I’m so sad that this series appears to be coming to an end. It was a great series to lose yourself in. Rumor has it, maybe she’ll write about the kids of the MC. If she does, I’m so there. Until then then, a piece of my heart lies in Hortensia.

Bowtie…’till I DIE.

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.
For Preppy and Dre, it was only the beginning…

Review

Preppy, Preppy, Preppy. What an absolute mess of a man! He wasn’t as dark as I thought he’d be. That being said, he was pretty damn dark. His humor is always perfectly timed and flawlessly delivered. I laughed quite a bit while reading this book.

Dre was hard for me to love. I don’t have a lot of patience for drug and alcohol addicts. I know its a flaw of mine but I’m being honest. The robbing of her Grandma? Unforgivable. She was almost beyond redemption for me.

If I had to have another complaint, I wish there would’ve been more present day story but I know that’s what part 2 will deal with.Attractive woman reading a book

Nobody’s home at the millionaire’s estate on remote Frakes Island. And nobody seems to be watching. Becca Cantrell dives in for an illicit midnight skinnydip–and gets hauled out by a towering, hard-muscled guy with burning dark eyes. He seems to be in charge. Good. The man is the embodiment of her most intense fantasies. And she’s up for risky thrills . . .

Nick Ward can’t tell her that he’s spying on a vicious Russian crime boss. Becca could be his worst enemy: an assassin sent to kill him, a call girl sent to distract him, or the worst scenario of all–a clueless innocent. Anyway he looks at it, she’s trouble: beautiful, bare, dripping-wet trouble. The kind he can’t resist.

She’s not scared. After one taste of his hot mouth, Becca soon discovers just how fearless she can be. She’ll need it, too–because things are about to explode on Frakes Island, launching Becca and Nick into danger they could never have imagined–and a passion that could destroy them both.

Review

This is an oldie but goodie for me. I read it at the beginning of my romance stage, so this author will always have a special place in my heart.

Nick is an ex-Fed trying to live down a string of professional bad calls. They eat away eat him terribly. He’s a man whore and has never had a meaningful relationship. When he’s undercover, he runs into a beautiful woman who fastly becomes his whole entire world.

Becca is a self admitted good girl. She doesn’t rock the boat at all. After her ex’s betrayal, she tries to take a small trip to get away from it all. She stumbles into the middle of an undercover situation that’s truly monstrous. The only person she can trust is a man who may be every bit as bad as the monsters.

Shannon McKenna was at the top of her game when this series first started. She went off the deep end with the mind control drugs and I stopped reading her. If you love humor, suspense, blistering sex scenes and filthy mouthed alpha males, read McKenna. She knows how to get it done.

All Ryker Dennison wanted was to become President of the Roaming Devil’s Motorcycle Club. It would be his legacy. His grandfather and father had both held the title and he was the next in line.

Enter Ella Hawkins. He had known her since they were fifteen and had tried to push her memory away. Their troublesome past included her father arresting him, which was not something he could easily forget. But when she came to him, pleading for his help to save the one man he despised from a rival motorcycle gang, he found himself agreeing to help her, thus breaking the number one rule of the MC.

Ryker soon finds himself with a major dilemma. Women weren’t part of the club life and bringing Ella into his world would only mean putting her in danger. With his father trying to push Ella away from him for his own benefit, her father constantly trying to arrest him, and his own desire for her getting in the way of his club life, he finds himself going against everything to be with the woman he loved. Will breaking the rules land him in the ultimate position to have everything he ever wanted? Or will his risky move cost him everything, including the woman of his dreams?

Review

I always enjoy finding a new author to read. It’s a rare thing for me nowadays. Tried and true when I have to spend my money. I also enjoy finding a new MC romance series. Bonus is, new series and new author.

Ryker is slated to take the gavel and be the President of the Roaming Devils MC after his father steps down or dies. He’s ready. The club has been his way of life for as long as he can remember. His vision for the MC is different from his father’s. He knows there will be resistance but he’s up for the challenge.

Ella is a doctor and the daughter of a police officer that is set on taking down Ryker’s club. Ella went to high school with Ryker, knows what the MC is about and goes to Ryker for help. This starts a series of events that will have light suspense fans cheering.

Good start to a new series and I’m really looking forward to the next one. Will it be Superman or Vampire?

Troy Brennan

Every Southie in Boston knows that name. The son of a dead mobster. The heart-throb with steel-blue eyes. “The Fixer” who can make or break you in this city.

Oh, and my new husband.

Sparrow Raynes

That’s me. No one seemed to remember my name up until he barged into my life.
But then he caged me.
Kidnapped me.
And killed every chance I had to run away from the place where we grew up.
Put simply, Troy Brennan clipped my wings.

I have dreams, big ones, but I doubt he’ll ever let me chase them. I have no idea why he decided to take me as his wife. But I do know this: pissing off this man will not do me any good. At all.

Review

If you can’t handle cheating, stay away from this one.

What does it mean when the most infamous man in town demands that you marry him? Even though he hasn’t looked your way since you were a child. Why did he kidnap you and force you into marriage? Why is his friend warning you off but your parent urging you on? How does the plain girl land the most eligible bachelor? Why is your new husband demanding your fidelity while never offering you his? What secrets does he have? Why are you attracted to this monster? Will you ever get the answers you need or the security you require? Will you even live through the experience?

All of these questions get answered and then some. I really enjoyed watching Sparrow grow more and more comfortable with herself. I also loved her refusal to put up with Troy’s shit. Troy really was a vile man for most of the book. His only saving grace was that he fell in love with his wife eventually. There is good suspense and hot sex in this book, if you can overlook the initial cheating.

Ophelia Donovan wants to move past the loves of her life, two badass bikers in her brother’s MC. When she gave Cash “Ghost” McCall and Louis “Stretch” King, an ultimatum of bringing their relationship out in the open or she’d walk, they chose separation. It crushed Ophelia’s dreams of having a happily-ever-after and family with Ghost and Stretch.

Stretch lives with guilt and pain from the death of his former lover and the injuries he received the same night. For a while, Cash and Stretch worked fine. They’d agreed to choose a woman together to bring into their relationship. Instead, Cash brought Outlaw’s sister in, intending to use her as a shield for Cash’s growing feelings for both Stretch and Fee. The dissolution of their relationship because of Fee’s goading leaves Stretch angry with both of his lovers.

Ghost doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t have the confidence in himself that he’s equipped for something meaningful. He only knows he loves both Stretch and Ophelia. She wants kids, a house with him and Stretch, and, most of all, an open relationship with them. So open she expects Ghost to go to her brothers—his club’s president—and confess all. Even if he did do commitment, he wouldn’t be alive to see it through. Outlaw would kill Ghost, especially after already warning him away.

Christopher “Outlaw” Caldwell knows Ghost is about fun and fucking. He’s in charge of the Bobs, those women trotted out for pleasure at special club occasions. Outlaw’s little sister wants a family and he refuses to allow her to waste her years on a man who’ll walk away in the end. Outlaw’s life has been quiet recently, with every known club threat removed, giving him plenty of time to focus on family.

Thanks to Cash’s outrageous plan to throw Outlaw off, he raises the man’s suspicions instead. A biker from a rival club uses Ophelia to get on Outlaw’s good side, leaving her gravely injured, Outlaw in jail, Stretch admitting how important both she and Cash are to him, and Cash determined to never deny his love again.

Review

It has taken me a while to write my review because, I was and still am in denial. I can’t believe the series is over. I feel like I’ve lost a dear friend. I’m sullen, grouchy and a bit lonely. I love this series. It has captivated me since I opened my first book. Not only did I get to read a great series but I got to get to know Kat Kelly. She’s a wonderful friend and I am so blessed that she reached out to me. So, for my review, I’m going to say goodbye to these characters individually.

Cash McCall, Stretch King and Ophelia Donovan- what a wonderful triad you are. Stretch, you had my heart all the way through your journey. Ophelia, kudos to you for sticking to your guys with these two. Thank you for befriending Kendall, even when she didn’t deserve it. Cash, you were quite possibly the most selfish character of the whole series and almost didn’t deserve these two.

Digger- you had me hating you for a long time. You thoroughly convinced me of your betrayal. I’m glad you ended up being a good guy.

Bunny-I’m glad you got your HEA. You certainly deserved it.

Val- You poor screwed up man. I liked you so much better before you became so stupid.

Zoann- Bless your precious heart. You endured so much in your life. I’m thankful you and Val worked it out.

Mortician- Mort, how I love you! I love your humor, your darkness, your care and keeping of all the women in your life, including your friendship with Red.

Bailey- You are a saint. Mort was an ass to you while he fought his attraction to you. You got the best of both of your parents.

Megan- I adore you. Your love and trust of Christopher is exactly what a wife should have for her husband. The quiet yet firm way you ruled the women. Your patience, sweet lord, your patience.

Christopher- I still hate you! I hate you less now than early on in the series but I still hate you. The only thing positive I can say about you is that you LOVE your wife. When your death comes, I hope Kendall is the one causing it.

Johnnie-I loved you so much in the beginning. Then I lost respect for you when you failed Kendall again and again. I never questioned your love for her, just your defense of her.

Kendall- You were an amazing character. I wanted to hug and comfort you, then you showed your ass again. I wanted to shake you then. Back and forth, back and forth. You had your demons that you constantly battled and you lost more than you won with them. Stay away from Christopher. He’s your Kryptonite. Your attraction to him makes me want to throw up.

Thank you Kat for writing this series and your friendship. Maybe, check in with the Death Dwellers MC sometime? Maybe write about the kids next? What ever you decide, I’ll be there breathless with anticipation.

Review

The premise of this book is a bit creepy. More than a little offensive and not due to the age difference between the hero and heroine. A young woman is on the run for her life. She goes to her father’s former best friend for protection. The man her father told her to go to if she ever needed protection. When she gets there, the father’s former best friend is cold. He agrees to protect her but demands her body as payment. Say what?

What didn’t work for me:

His payment method.

He helped raise this girl and know he wants to have sex with her. Shudder.

Her thinking back to her childhood memories and him being there as a parental figure and then her thinking about how much she wants to sleep with him. Gross!

What I did like:

The secondary characters. I want to know their stories.

If you can get past the creep factor, this wasn’t too bad.

I suppose some of us have to get really dirty before we can become truly clean.

I was allegedly South Dakota’s most famous old lady.
Sixteen years ago I survived my old man’s murder

Never again.
Never again will I surrender my heart.
Never again will I sacrifice to the Club.

But that all changed in one night.

I came home and crashed into him,
and my past and present blew up in my face.
Both of us lonely, running on empty, and unwilling to admit it.

Until now.
Now I feel things I’d forgotten about, want things I’d cut out of my insides.

Love not only stings when you lose it, when it’s ripped away from you.
When it first sinks its teeth in you, it can cut just as raw and sting just as deep.

I’d forgotten that.

Who holds the keys to betrayal? To suspicion? To trust?
To brotherhood? To family?
To redemption and a bleeding heart?
Right now, I just might.

This book was suggested to me by a Goodreads friend who also loves MC romance. I’d heard of the author but hadn’t got a chance to read her yet. After the suggestion, I decided to move her up on my TBR and give her a go. I’m very glad that I did.

This story was a very emotional story that tugged at my heart from page one and kept me engrossed. I would’ve finished it sooner but the family was on vacation and we had family stuff to do. It’s a story of having a second chance at love despite losing your first one. Sometimes when you read a book with two different love stories in them, one gets over shadowed by the other one. Not here. I felt her love for both men and understood it. I saw what she was willing to sacrifice not only for her late husband or the MC but for herself.

Great characters, family loyalty, good suspense and hot sex. A winner in my book.

They say there are defining points in your life – moments where you f**ked it all up, moments that make you its bitch, moments that shape you into the person you are.
The day I met Braxton Ward was one of my moments.
My name’s Melissa Hart, and I don’t think you’re ready for this story.

Hella
I go by a few names: Hella, Brax, 112, or, depending on whether I’ve been balls deep in you or not, C*nt. I don’t push the boundaries because in order to do so, one must have them. I’ve never had them. Being homeless at the not-so-tender age of fifteen morphed me into an emotionless shell, and when The Army recruited me, that shell turned into steel.
They say if fire is hot enough, it can melt steel; the hate that burns between Melissa Hart and me just might be hot enough.
Shit doesn’t come easy for us. Enemies are expanded, secrets are revealed, and lives will be taken. Yeah, I’m Braxton “Hella” Ward, and you bet your f*cking ass that you ain’t ready for this story

Review

Hella. What a messed up man! He was dark. Maybe the darkest guy that I’ve ever read about. You knew he was dark in the first book of the series but WOW! You truly get to see the level of darkness that lives in his soul in this book. It was cringe worthy.

This story is about the intense attraction between Hella and Melissa. It’s not an easy road to witness. Hella is a stubborn asshole. His treatment of Melissa is less than chivalrous. At times, it’s just plain cruel and selfish.

Melissa has her own demons to fight. A shattering tragedy in her teenage years has shaped her in to the woman she now is. She’s smart, caring and a hot ass mess. Her humor made me laugh a lot. She handles Hella very well.

I liked this book better than the first in the series. Be warned though, there is graphic violence and possibly triggers for some readers.
