Even as they become closer, both as lovers and as Dominant and submissive, new murders and his own lie make Anderson a suspect and then the target of a cop looking to clear his own name.

I received a copy of this book via the author in exchange for an honest review.

“Killing someone is hard work. Harder than it looks in the movies.”

I loved this book! I’ve been struggling with a bit of burn out lately and this is exactly what I needed. This book has an amazing story with a bit of erotic romance and BDSM elements all throughout. In my opinion this has a perfect mix of murder, mystery, suspense and romance.

description

While investigating a possible serial killer, Detective Silver also discovers a lot about herself and what makes her happy. She meets Anderson through a mutual friend and he is Silver’s “inside guy” that introduces her to the world of BDSM so she can catch a killer that is hiding in that world. This is where Silver starts to understand more about herself and finally figures out what has been missing in her life.

“If I wanted him, I had to make it happen. My responsibility. If I want to be happy, it’s my choice to make. It’s easy to say, but it is not just saying, today I’m going to be happy. You have to risk what you have this moment for what you want in the next.”

There were times when Silver was getting on my nerves. She seemed to be a taker and not a giver when it came to Anderson. I get it that the BDSM lifestyle is new to her and this is exactly what men used to do with her, but you don’t have to turn around and do the same thing to someone else, unless that is what they want. Which it’s not what Anderson wanted. However, I really liked Silver’s overall character as well as Anderson and all the other side characters. I think they were well developed and believable.

I really love all the local references. I was born and raised in Kansas City and still live here. KCK is my old stomping grounds and that is where all my family lives. Overland park, KCK, Northland, downtown area, just everywhere! I especially loved the reference to Missie B’s, Hayes Hamburgers and several other local places. I use to go to Missie B’s a lot in my 20’s. I loved the Drag shows! All I remember is Flo. Probably because my sisters exgirlfriend use to bounce there. One thing I don’t know is, where in the world are all the dungeons? But anyway… back to the story.

This was a fantastic mystery and it kept me guessing until it was time for me to know who, what, when and why! There were moments that made me feel like my heart was going to beat out of my chest and I couldn’t read fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. I loved it!!

The sex was excellent! But my favorite part was at about 14% in when Silver was “like a cat marking her territory”. YAAASSSS! You go girl!!

description

I also liked the first meeting that Silver and Anderson had. I really hate anything to do with feet, so this is pretty significant for me. Very well done! Bravo! Actually all the sex scenes are really good and erotic.

description

So why 4.5 stars? Only because there were moments in the middle of this book that seemed to drag on. I couldn’t pinpoint which one, but sometimes I was tired of hearing about Silver’s internal struggle with drinking and not knowing who she is and how she didn’t want Anderson around unless she wanted to use him for something. All I really wanted was to read more about the investigation.

One thing I don’t like (but has nothing to do with my rating) while reading any book is the overuse of the word “passion”. It’s worse than the word “moist. The word Passion is not overused in this book and is probably only used 3 or 4 times. The reason I bring it up is because I think that word gets overused so much that it really stands out to me when I read. I have come to hate that word and anytime I hear it, I cringe. I’m not a wordsmithing word wizard so I have no idea what you would use in its place. That is just my personal opinion and issue. I’m sure 99.9% of the people out there are fine with that word, I’m just the weird one.

Overall this entire book is a great read and will keep you glued to the pages. There is a reason why this book won the BDSM Writers Con Golden Flogger Award for Best BDSM book of the year. I loved it 🙂

Drury Jamison is not a bestselling author, yet. But he believes hard work will prevail. He has been writing since he could read beginning with, what we now call fan fiction, stories about favorite DC Comics heros. Since then he gave all his attention to the story at the expense of the rules making rewriting very important.

Born an Army brat he finally settled and came to call the Missouri Ozarks home. While raising wonderful kids and failing at everything else, he wrote screenplays, television scripts, advertising copy and filthy limericks. After many twists, and multiple once-in-a-lifetime life changing events, he returned to work on the short stories and novels he loved best.

Oh… my…. goodness! This was an intense book! There are a bunch of parts that were so fucked up, I thought I was going to vomit. Actually, this entire book is fucked up. But in a good, sick, twisted, emotionally raw, scary and heart pounding way. It will for sure get your adrenaline pumping! This book will stay with me for a very long time.

“Only a monster would do something like that. I looked at him as he shocked her wound and knew I was right. Only a monster would do something like that. And his name was Ron.”

“I’d be sure I was prepared to reap before I started sowing, if I were you, Nicole.”

If you pick up this book, just know that there are potential triggers for people. Rape, torture, necrophilia, murder, plenty of mind fucks and there is a some pregnancy torture. I’ll tell you something… I learned some life lessons in this book.

I must also check out a book that is referenced… Annie’s Revenge. Also… this author is from the Ozarks. This is only 3 hours away from me. I actually go there every summer and my uncle has a cabin there.

Stood up by her boyfriend, she goes home with a woman…

Straight-laced coed Angie has never felt daring enough to…experiment. Until tonight. The skin around Heather’s lips is soft, unlike the stubble Erik lets grow in, and the night unfolds like an erotic dream, tapping into an unexplored part of Angie’s body and mind.

But Heather’s seduction turns into a nightmare when Angie wakes up tied to the bed and is told she can’t leave. Alternately seduced and tormented by her lover-turned-captor, Angie is pulled ever deeper into a twisted world of pain-for-pleasure and voyeuristic exploits. As the stakes rise, both women give into a desire for connections neither has had, and Angie’s struggle to escape becomes a bigger dilemma: Would she leave if she could?

Winner of the Golden Palm Contest for New Adult Romance, this erotic thriller dares to explore the darker side of our fantasies and their sometimes unintended consequences.

Review

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! Holy shit that was an intense and crazy ride! I do love a good psychological thriller and this one did not disappoint. This is an exciting and very well written story and I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a book that makes your heart pump fast for many different reasons. This is an author you will want to keep on your radar.

The Need is a thrilling story about an insecure young woman who discovers things about herself that are brought to the surface in the most unexpected, unusual and sometimes terrifying way. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting to read faster to find out what happens next. This is truly a prime example of a “page turner”.

description

Angie and Heather’s characters are very well developed and interesting. To me they felt like real people and I was right there with them on their crazy journey. Thank goodness I really wasn’t but I did feel what Angie felt. I felt her anticipation, love, fear, hate and confusion about what was happening to her. Heather helped these feelings along because she is a manipulator, deceiver and in my opinion a complete psychopath. However, at times I think Heather wanted the “normal” and she saw that in Angie. She wanted and yearned for someone to love her for who she is and all her faults. She wasn’t loved by her mother and her father left when she was young. So Heather has her own self esteem and trust issues.

“We are all victims of circumstance-until we make a conscious decision not to be.

description

This isn’t my first f/f book and most certainly not my last. The sex in this book is really good, terrifying, fascinating, complicated and very erotic. It’s very well done and given the circumstances of the story, nothing like I’ve read before. To me, each scene has a purpose in both Angie and Heather’s character development. There are a couple of scenes that make me wonder if Heather had set them up prior or if they really were unexpected. Example, the City Inspector and cop? Is she really that much of a mastermind manipulator?

“You don’t hate me. You chose to let me do that to you because it gave you something you needed.”

description

Some of the things I questioned or didn’t understand are; Angie is supposed to be super smart and highly educated. So it surprises me that she can even consider falling in love with someone who lied and tortured her. I get that you do what you need to survive but in my opinion that is an extreme case of Stockholm syndrome and that girl needs some therapy. I also know that years of low self esteem and believing your own truths has a tremendous effect on you.

description

There is also a part that confused me, but maybe I just read it wrong or something. Heather uses a phrase with the “city inspector” that calms him down and then Angie turns around and uses the exact phrase on Heather. Wouldn’t Heather recognize what Angie is doing? There is also a little bit of Heathers back story that I may have misunderstood. Again, it’s totally possible that I missed something. I thought that her mom got a new boyfriend? But then she ended up getting kicked out? Sorry people, I cannot elaborate on that question. Also, at the end of the book, what happened to the “other people” involved in the story? Was Stone Media set up like a snuff film or something? What happed to the company and all the videos? I can’t ask too many questions because I don’t want to give anything away. The ending did not go in the direction I expected which makes it much more interesting but left me with a lot of questions.

On a side note, I need to mention that every time I hear Iron Maiden… all I can think about is Bill and Ted. This really has nothing to do with the book, it’s just something that popped in my head almost every time I read it. 😀

description

My overall experience of The Need is a full 5 stars, but the ending and the few things I questioned make me take it down half a star. Although that ending was not what I expected or wanted, this is not my story to tell. This is Angie and Heathers story told through the eyes of S.L. Hannah and it really is an exciting story. I highly recommend trying this out for yourself.
